AMES PRESTON DABNEY. Probably there is no profession that demandsso much tact, judgment, patience, specialized knowledge and naturalexecutive ability as that of the schoolmaster, and the man or woman whoenters into this important field, selecting it as his calling, must beprepared to make many personal sacrifices, to endure many disappointments, often to spend himself for others without apparent gratitude in return, andto give the best years of his life without the emoluments that equal effortwould surely bring in any other profession. It is a profession which cannotbe weighed or measured according to the standards of mundane things. Thematerial with which it deals are those which make up life itself, and theopportunities in it afford the man who would serve the race unselfishly andefficiently many openings not to be found elsewhere.
