It was organized by Revs. T. L. Baker, Jesse Cox and --- Barnes, with helps from the Mount Pleasant and Crooked Creek Churches in Tennessee. The first meeting was held at the dwelling of David Calhoun, and after the society acquired a permanency, religious services were conducted at different residences in the neighborhood. In 1844 a log house of worship was erected on land donated by David Calhoun. It has been remodeled since and a second story built for the use of the Patrons of Husbandry, a lodge of which met in the hall for a couple of years. Since its organization the church has been ministered to by the following pastors, to wit: T. L. Baker, William Skinner R. R. Allen, S. R. McLane, W. E. McCaulley, D. S. Hanberry and A. J. Bird. ALIVE AT WILL & DEATH & PROBATE OF HUSBAND, DAVID COHOON/CALHOON: To "my dearly beloved wife Rebeckah Cohoon," Will dated "this April 1861," presented at "County Court, Called Term April 17, 1865" and after continuance proven by 19 Apr 1865 deposition of John Futrell, surviving witness, presented to court 18 May 1865 and recorded 4 Jul 1865. (REF: FamilySearch 2015 database: "Kentucky Probate Records, 1727-1990" Trigg [Co KY] Will records, 1865-1868, Vol. G, pages 51-52; URL: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3QSQ-G9DP-G7MG, image 11/index & 56-57 of 321.) LAST PROVEN ALIVE, ESTIMATING HER DEATH: Last proven alive, by Rev War Widow's Pension application documents, when on 24 July 1871, at age 83, she made a Declaration of Widow for Pension (URL:https://www.fold3.com/image/302357152/calhoon-david-page-54-us-war-of-1812-pens ion-files-1812-1815, page 54-55; written as Rebecca, signed as "Rebeckah 'her "X" mark' Calhoon). However, it is strongly implied/inferred that she was still living, definitely when her son William made affidavit on 6 Oct 1874 (URL: https://www.fold3.com/image/302357143/calhoon-david-page-45-us-war-of-1812-pension-f iles-1812-1815, pages 45-48). It is further suggested that she was still living as late as June 28, or August 2, 1875, by the continued affidavits attesting to proof of marriage for her eligibility, that of neighbor Perry Thomas, dated 7 Oct 1874 (URL: https://www.fold3.com/image/302357147/calhoon-david-page-49-us-war-of-1812-pension-f iles-1812-1815); the certification of the affiants, for pension for widow, made by Post Master 28 Jun 1875 (URL: https://www.fold3.com/image/302357108/calhoon-david-page-10-us-war-of-1812-pension-f iles-1812-1815.) Notation that doc was returned to Post Master for Seal of Trigg Co, 7 July 1875; admitted for War of 1812 Widow's Pension on 1 Aug 1875 (URL: https://www.fold3.com/image/302357100/calhoon-david-page-2-us-war-of-1812-pension-fi les-1812-1815.); assigned pension of $8 a month on August 2nd, 1875; (URL: https://www.fold3.com/image/302357105/calhoon-david-page-7-us-war-of-1812-pension-fi les-1812-1815.) Certificate dated Aug 6, 1875, sent to pension agent Aug 11, 1875. (URL: https://www.fold3.com/image/302357100/calhoon-david-page-2-us-war-of-1812-pension-fi les-1812-1815.) By these documents, life is proven through at least June 28, 1875, and hopefully beyond August 11, 1875. BURIAL PLACE: No stone. With husband. Gravesite Details Family info is that Rebecca (Futrell) Calhoon/Cohoon is buried beside her husband, David Green Calhoon (aka Cohoon), at the Calhoon family cemetery which later became called the Griff Calhoun Cemetery, overlooking the Cumberland River's Lake Barkley. FACT: His VA stone (possibly a cenotaph) is located in Trigg County, Kentucky, at what became called the Griff Calhoun Cemetery on "Calhoun Hill" near the former Lock E on the Cumberland River, overlooking, and immediately adjacent to, Lake Barkley, above the area flooded by TVA for the Barkley Dam. (ALERT: It has been published as fact, in The Futrell Family Revised, by Roger H. Futrell, 2009, page 74, that David and Rebecca were buried with his parents Joel and Naomi Cohoon, on land at Lower Donaldson Creek, without markers, and that remains were moved in the 1960s to Little River Relocation Cemetery. I have checked the databases for TVA cemetery relocations, and searched every variant spelling of the surname, and there was no relocation of Joel, Naomi, David or Rebecca by any spelling, Cohoon, Cahoon, Calhoon, Calhoun, not even by similar Cowan. (REF: Ancestry.com 2014 database "U.S., Tennessee Valley Cemetery Relocation Files, 1933-1990;" URL: https://www.ancestry.com/search/collections/60427/.) FACT: The burial of their son, their youngest child, Wood Calhoon (died MAY 11, 1897), grave 102, was reported in Cemetery Number 8-J, Pleasant Hill Cemetery. FACT: The burial of the parents, David and Rebecca (Futrell) Cohoon, nor his parents Joel and Naomi, by any variant spelling is not mentioned in the TVA Cemetery relocation records. (DURING SEARCH: Found shocking article though at https://www.thecemeterydetective.com/submerged-cemetery-mullins-cove/.) RESOLVED: For the time being, since the burial place has been questioned, and has been relayed word-of-mouth by older family, along with so-far unprovable assumptions, as mentioned above, I am leaving her burial in same location with the Government-issued Veteran's Administration cenotaph stones for her husband and father-in-law.
