James Taylor Morgan Enters Great Beyond ____________________ James Taylor Morgan, 76, died in his sleep at about three o'clock Thursday afternoon, August 2, at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. William Prewitt where he had made his home since the death of his wife in October, 1942. He was on the streets of LaGrange that morning and after dinner went to his room for his usual afternoon nap. Death was due to a heart condition. He was a native of Trimble County, one of thirteen children of the late Judge John J. and Mary Frances Morgan. He attended school in Trimble County and at the Spencerian Business College, Louisville. He joined the Hickory Grove Methodist Church early in life. For more than fifty years he traveled for Sauerston and Brown, candy manufacturers, and retired about four years ago after a successful work with that firm. In his early years as a traveling salesman he joined the United Commercial Travelers and served as Grand Councilor. He had wide connections all over Kentucky. He came to LaGrange many years ago and built the residence now owned by E. L. Proctor. He served for many years as a member of the Board of Trustees of the LaGrange Graded School and was its president. He was a member when the present High School building was erected. He was an active member of the Methodist Church and served in official capacities in the churches in Miami, Florida, Winchester, Jy. and LaGrange. The family lived in Winchester for many years but returned to LaGrange several years ago. His residence in Florida was for a few years only. In thirty-nine years, he missed only two annual Conferences of the Methodist Church and his face was a familiar one in the quadrennial meetings of the General Conference of the church. He was a Mason and had received the Order of the Temple (Knight Templar.) Early in life he married Miss Sammie Strother, daughter of the late Samuel and Nancy Strother, also of Trimble County. Five children were born to the union, two of whom died in babyhood. Surviving are one son, Dr. Samuel P. Morgan, LaPorte, Ind.; two daughters, Miss Frances Morgan, Morfolk, Va. and Mrs. Gordon Gault, Detroit, Mich.; four grandchildren; two sisters, Misses Kate and Elizabeth Morgan, Miami, Fla; three brothers, the Rev. R. E. L. Morgan, Oklahoma City, Okla., Hommer V. Morgan, Gerty, Okla., and Edwrd Morgan, Altanta, Ga. Funeral services were held at 2:00 o'clock Saturday afternoon at the local Methodist Church with the pastor, the Rev. L. F. Moody, in charge. He was assisted by the Rev. W. R. Johnson, LaGrange, and the Rev. R. F. Ockerman, District Superintendent, Frankfort. A duet, "Looking This Way" was sung by Mrs. V. P. Cassaday and Mrs. Allen H. Brown with Miss Lilah Hembree as organ accompanist. The services were attended by a large group of friends and there was a profusion of floral tributes. The body was taken to the Bedford Cemetery for interment in the family lot. Active pallbearers were T. W. Overstreet, W. B. Hitt, W. R. Magruder, W. M. Prewill, E. H. Welsh and Oral Waits. Honorary pallbearers were Al L. Layer, Stephen Wehrle, D. C. Ward, Howard Abbott, Cecil M. Bake, A. D. Hampton and T. H.
