JODIE HOPGOOD Mrs. Jodie Hopgood, 64, Morganfield, died Thursday at 11:47am at St. Mary's Medical Center in Evansville. Mrs. Hopgood was a member of First Baptist Church in Morganfield and a 24 year employee of Citizens Bank where she was a Vice President/ North Morgan Branch. Survivors include her husband, James R.; two sons, Keith of Owensboro, and Tommy of Morganfield; two sisters, Betty Lamb of Sturgis and Sherry Witaker of Sullivan; and one grandchild. Services were at 2:30pm Saturday at First Baptist Church in Morganfield with Rev. Mark Galloway officiating. Burial was in Odd Fellow Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society. MRS. LOUISE HEAVRIN Mrs. Louise Heavrin, 70, Morganfield, died Thursday at 9:18am at the Union County Methodist Hospital. Survivors include her husband, Rowan; two sons, Bill of Morganfield, and Tony of Grove Center; four sisters, Frances Topper of Minneapolis, MN., Dorothy Duke of Marietta, GA., Joyce Bevins and Marilyn Price, both of Sturgis; three brothers, James of Morganfield, Luther of Trenton, GA., and Donnie Joiner of Grove Center; two grandchildren, Monica Rogers and Billy Carl Toy; and one great grandchild, Christopher Baker. Services were at 1:00pm Saturday at Whitsell Funeral Home in Morganfield with Fr. Terry Devine officiating. Burial was in Odd Fellow Cemetery. Contributions may be made to St. Anthony's Hospice. CHARLES F. CLARK Charles F. Clark, 78, Morganfield, died Thursday at South Miami Hospital in Miami. He was a retired federal mine inspector from the Morganfield office of the Mine Safety Health Administration. Survivors include his wife, Marie H. "Sissy" Clark of Fort Myers, FL.; two daughters, Terry Wrench of St. Petersburg, FL., and Nancy Spector of Buffalo Grove, IL.; tow stepdaughters, Sherry Drury of Morganfield, and Jo Lane Stroud of Owensboro; one son, Randolph E. Clark of Logan, WV.; two brothers, Paul M. Clark of Scottown, Ohio, and James F. Clark of Springfield, Ohio; 14 grandchildren; and four great grandchildren. IRENE OWEN Irene Owen, 74, Sturgis, died Monday, March 31 at 3:04 am at her daughter's residence in Morganfield. Mrs. Owen was a member of the First Baptist Church in Morganfield. Survivors include three daughters, Karen Shirley of Virginia Beach, VA., Debbie Piper of Orange, Texas, and Kathy Powell of Morganfield; two sons, Billy Joe Owen of Morganfield, and Eddie Owen of Georgetown, KY.; two sisters, Gladys Humphrey of Morganfield and Betty Collins of Henderson; 9 grandchildren, and 1 great grandchild. MARY ETTA SHOCKLEY Mary Etta Shockely, 86, Evansville, died Monday at 9:30am at Welborn Baptist Hospital in Evansville, She is preceded in death by her husband, Jack Shockley in 1969, formerly of Uniontown and a daughter Margie Casey in 1996 of Newburgh, IN. Mrs. Shockley retired in 1972 from St. Mary's Medical Center. She was an active member of the Senior Citizen's Center and enjoyed taking many bus tours. She was a lifelong member of the Catholic Faith attending St. Anthony's for 40 years and Holy Redeemer for 17 years. Survivors include five daughters, Dora Long Vernon and Norma Voyles, both of Mt. Vernon, IN., Shelia Adock, Linda Ann Rembusch, and Dorothy Phillips, both of Evansville; four sons, Darrell Hill of Oakland City, IN., Kenneth Shockley of Evansville, Jack Shockely of Waterboro, SC., and Dennis Shockley of Newburgh, IN.; three sisters, Marie Wicks and Agnes Utley and Charlotte O'Daniels, all of Uniontown; three brothers, Bernard Russelburg of Morganfield, James Russelburg of Richland, IN., and Richard Russelburg of Evansville; 34 grandchildren, and 49 great grandchildren. Services were today at 11am at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Uniontown. Burial will be in St. Agnes Cemetery in Uniontown. LOYD O. BROWN Loyd O. Brown, Robards, died at 3:50pm Sunday at his home. He was a member of Robards Baptist Church where he was a deacon for many years. Survivors include three sons, Homer F. Brown of Henderson County, Eddie Brown of Uniontown, and James H. Brown of Daytona Beach, FL.; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren. Services were at 10am today at Benton-Glunt Funeral Home. Burial will be in Fairmont Cemetery. Mr. Owen was a member of UMWA Local #1867 and a member of the Black Diamond C. B. Club. MELVIN DONALD "POOCHIE" RUARK Melvin Donald "Poochie" Ruard, 75, Uniontown, died Wednesday, April 6, at 7:15 am at his residence. Mr. Ruark was co-owner of Morganfield Stock Yard and served several terms on the Uniontown City Council. He was also a member of the Uniontown Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Betty, two daughters, Donna Sherlock and Jacki Rurak, both of Knoxville, TN; two sons, Jerry of Morganfield, and Mel Ruark of Dallas, TX; one brother, Dorris Rurak of Morganfield; five grandchildren, and one great grandchild. Burial was in Sacred Heart Cemetery. HERBERT "TINY" WEDDING Herbert "Tiny" Wedding, 68, Henderson, died at 1:40pm Saturday at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minn. A member of the Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church, he was a retired rural mail carrier, having worked for 35 years. He was a member of Holy Name Men's Club, the American Legion 40 & 8, the Elks, the Moose Lodge, the Disabled American Veterans, and the Knights of Columbus. Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Betty,; one daughter, Dessa Bray of Henderson; three sons, Jason Wedding and Thomas Wedding, both of Hendeson, and Michael Wedding of Maysville; two sisters, Anna Frields of Henderson and Elizabeth Rhea of Morganfield; three granddaughters; nieces and nephews. Jesse owned and operated Jesse's Barber Shop from 1963-1983 on Adams Street and in 1983 established a commodities trading business which he operated on Adams Street also. Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Dr. Mary Curry; two brothers, Rodney Curry of Madisonville; and Tommy Curry of Blackford; and seven nieces. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the American Heart Association. ELISABETH C. BURROW Elisabeth C. Burro, 87, Sturgis, died Wednesday April 16 at 9:45am at her residence on Poplar Street. Mrs. Burrow was a graduate of Western Kentucky University. She taught school in Fulton, KY. She was a member of Sturgis United Methodist Church. Survivors include her husband, Robert; one son, Charles R. Burrow of Morganfield; two sisters, Miriam Mitchell of Rochester, NY., and Katherine Meacham of Paducah; and three grandchildren. ZEIL COURTNEY Mrs. Zeil Courtney, 89, Morganfield, died Saturday, at 11pm at the Union County Methodist Hospital. Mrs. Courtney was a member of the Sturgis Baptist Church and a home maker. She is preceded in death by her husband, John Courtney in 1983. Survivors include two daughters, Sharon West of Hatfield, IN., and Charlotte Cavins of Evansville, IN.; one son, Louis Courtney of Sturgis; and 34 grandchildren. HAZEL HIGGINSON Hazel Higginson, 86, Dixon, died at 2:45pm Friday at Medco Center of Morganfield. A member of Church of Christ in Sebree, she sold Watkins products in Webster County for 30 years. She is preceded in death by her husband, Cyrus M. Higginson. Survivors include one daughter, Sharon Higginson of Dixon; one son, Carmen Higginson of Bonita Springs, FL.; two brothers, Eugene D. Cates of Pride, and Raymond V. Cates of Clay; five grandchildren; ten great grandchildren and two step great grandchildren. TYLER FORD POWELL Tyler Ford Powell, infant son of Jonetta nad Donnie Powell of Sturgis, died at 5:35pm Saturday at Norton's Hospital in Louisville. In addition to his parents, survivors include his grandparents, Sue and DeWayne Powell, Peggy and Roy Henson, and Cathy and John Ford, all of Sturgis; one brother, Michael R. Powell of Sturgis. Mary Bradburn Mary Bradburn, 80, Henderson, formerly of Sturgis, died Friday at 6:20pm at Community Methodist Hospital in Henderson. Mrs. Bradburn was a charter member of the Rebecca Pease Lodge and also a member of the Sturgis Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Bradburn worked at the Sturgis Hospital for 27 years. She is preceded in death by her brother Joe Stewart who died in Febrary of 1995. Survivors include one daughter, Marcella Vesy of Sarasota, FL; one foster daughter, Joanne Cowan of Sturgis; two sisters, Penny Burton and Dell Benn of Henderson. Services were 2pm Sunday at Whitsell Funeral Home in Sturgis. Burial was in Pythian Ridge Cemetery. Mary Marvel Mary Marvel, 75, Clay, died Satruday at 11:55 pm at the home of her son. Survivors include a son, Ned Whitaker of Sullivan, three step sons, Dwight Marve of Clay, Richad Marvel of Providence, and Robert Marvel of Nevada; one brother, Lloyd Winstead of North Liberty, IN; three granddaughters, four grandsons, and seven great grandchildren. Lindsey Booker Evans Lindsey Booker Evans, 7, Henderson, died at 11:57pm Thursday at St. Mary's Medical Center in Evansville. She was a member of Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church. Survivors include her parents, Cayce and Charlotte Evans of Henderson; five brothers, Bud Evans, David Evans, Cayce Evans Jr. , and Tommy Evans, all of Henderson, and Eddie Evans of Morganfield; aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Children's Wishes. Lucille Andre Lucille Andre, 80, died Sunday in Perry, MO. She is survived by her nephew Richard Flick and his wife Charlotte who cared for her. She is survived locally by a sister in law, Stella Andre and niece, Hazel Niese. Also surviving is a nephew, Bill Ruffin of Diamonhead, MS. Lucille and brother Don Andre moved to Perry to be near his son, Richard. Don preceded her in death August 16, 1996.
