Obits on page 2. Mildred Lively, 62, Morganfield, died 12:55pm Sunday, Aug. 2, of natural causes at Welborn Baptist Hospital in Evansville. Mrs. Liveley was born August 12, 1935 in Union County to William Herman Alvey and Anna Marguerite Alvey, was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church in Morganfield. She was treasurer for the Morganfield Key Club for many years and worked at Our Lady of Mercy Hospital, Union County Hospital, and Green River Comprehensive Care. She enjoyed needle-work and traveling. Survivors include her husband, Floy; her mother, Marquerite Alvey of Morganfield; two daughters, Kathy Veatch of Morganfield and Kim Lively of Evansville; two brothers, Robert Alvey of Morganfield, and Roger Alvey of Phoeniz, AZ; 3 grandchildren and a special friend, Donna Tilly of Evansville. Services will be 3:30pm Wednesday, August 5m, at St. Ann Catholic Church in Morganfield with Fr. Patrick M. Bittel officiating. Burial will be in St. Ann Cemetery, Morganfield, KY. Friends may call until service time Wednesday at Whitsell Funeral Home in Morganfield. Wayne Josefy, 64, Spottsville, died at 7:51pm Sunday, August 2, at his home. He had retired from Retiki Mines. Survivors inlcude his wife of 42 years, Jean; two daughters, Debbie Kellen of Morganfield and Donna Bishop of Waverly; one son, Danny Josefy of Morganfield; one brother, Bill Josefy of Grandfield, OK; four grandchildren and one great grandchild. Services will be at 10am Thursday at Rudy-Rowland Funeral Home with the Revs. Hal Branson and Norman O'Neal officiating. Burial will be in Shady Grove Cemetery, Poole. Mary Nannie Miller, 78, Sturgis, died 11:40 am Tuesday, July 28, at the Union County Methodist Hospital. She was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy for 37 years. Burial was in the Pythian Ridge Cemetery, Sturgis. Franklin G. Smith, 83, Waverly, died 11:10 am Sunday, August 2, at Community Methodist Hospital in Hendersno. Mr. Smith was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church in Waverly. He was born in Waverly on October 18, 1914, to William Smith and Veronica (Ray) Smith. He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathryn, who died in 1985. Survivors include three daughters, Rita Bowman of Louisville, Pauline Dixon of Corydon, and Ann McGuire of Morganfield; three sons, James Smith and Charles Smith, Sr, both of Morganfield and Joseph Smith of LaGrange, KY; one sister, Ruby Smith of Milwaukee, WI; two brothers, Roger Smith of Milwaukee, WI and Bobby Smith of Chicago, IL; a grandson, whom he raised, Charles Smith Jr of Atlanta, GA; one aunt, Margaret Compton of Louisville, KY; and thirty-five grandchildren. Penelope Hoheimer, 73, Morganfield, died 12:05 am Tuesday, July 28, at Community Methodist Hospital in Henderson. She was born June 19, 1925 to her parents, William Briscoe Taylor and Katherine Lewis Taylor. Survivors include her husband, Kenneth, and one daughter, Sue Ellen Hoheimer of Morganfield. Graveside services were held Thursday at the Masonic Cemetery in Morganfield. Rev. Dave Latham and Rev. Bob Dunlop officiated. Earl M. Burns, 84, Owensboro, formerly of Fordsville, died Friday at Bon Harbor Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. Mr. Burns, a member of the Zion Baptist Church in Ohio County, was born in Owensboro to his parents, Mary Etta Morris Burns and Silas John Burns. He was a self employed carpenter and had worked in the maintennance departments of Hillcrest Health Care Center and Golden Years Nursing Home. He was preceded in death by his wife, Corrine Powell Burns, in 1995; his son Herman Burns on Februrary 26, 1998; a brother, Matthew Burns and a sister Bertha Knott. Survivors include six sons, Silas, William and Roger, all of Owensboro, Thomas and Homer, both of Rocky Mountain, VA and Beverly of San Antonio, TX; two daughters, Zella Mae Quinn of Sturgis and Anita Keith of Owensboro; twenty six grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren. Burial was in Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Ohio County, KY James Burnette, 47, Waverly, died 1:05pm Sunday, August 2, of natural causes at his residence. Mr. Burnette was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church in Waverly. He was born in Morganfield on June 27, 1951 to he late William Burnette and Justine (Nelson) Burnette. Survivors inlclude his wife, Sandy; two sons, Brandon and Derrek Burnette, both of Waverly; one sister, Phyllis Walters of Vincennes, IN; and two brothers, Eddie Burnette of AL and Sandy Burnette of Morganfield. Heather Michelle Hibbs, 21, Madisonville, died at 2:11am Thursday, Aug. 6, at Regional Medical Center in Madisonville as a result of an automobile accident on Kentucky 112 in southern Hopkins County. Ms. Hibbs, a 1995 graduate of Madisonville-North Hopkins High School, attended Madisonville Community College and was an employee of Captain D's. Lillian Dye, 86, Sturgis, died at 2:05am Monday, August 10, at Medco Center in Morganfield. Survivors include her husband, Sam Wilburn Dye; one daughter, Charlene Ghose of Dixon; three stepdaugthers, Elizabeth McCollum of Sturgis, Susan Campbell of Wingo, KY and Barbara Burleson of Ft. Worth, TX; one son in law, Hank Czasmyka of Lake Geneva, WI; one stepson, Paul Dye of Sturgis; and several grandchildren. Friends may call from 9 -11am Wednesday. Dr. John D. Wathen, 75, Henderson, died 3:18am Saturday, Aug. 8, at St. Mary's Medical Center in Evansville. A retired dentist, he was a member of Holy Trinity Pro-Cathedral in Evansville and the Kentucky Dental Association. Mr. Wathen also served as a US Navy lieutenant in WWII and the Korean War. Survivors include three daughters, Lissa Wathen of Lexington, Annette Peterson of Bardstown, and Kristi Saffer of Louisville; one sister, Peggy Gager of Henderson; two brothers, James L. Alice Evalyn Sumner Smith, 87, Corydon, died 12:15pm Sunday, Aug. 16 at Community Methodist Hospital in Henderson. Mrs. Smith was born Feb. 8, 1911 in Jackson Co., IL., to Charles Milton Sumner and Mamie Grace (Reeder) Sumner. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde. Smith in 1976; a son, Clyde A. Smith in 1991; and a daughter , Betty Shelton in 1995. Survivors include three daughters, Helen Shelton of Robards, Linda Stone of Henderson and Lillian Embry of Corydon; one son, James R. Aug. 12, at Shemwell Nursing Home in Providence. Mrs. Lawson, born in 1906 in Union County to Zilpha Mayne Omer and Riley Daniel Smith, was a member of the Sturgis Cumberland Presbyterian Church. She was also a cafeteria worker at the Sturgis School. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Lawson, who died in 1973. Survivors include two daughters, Betty Jane Henshaw and Helen Marlene Waterhouse, both of Clarksville, TN; one son, William Leroy Lawson of Clay; two grandchildren, Gloria Henshaw and Leilani King, both of Clarksville, TN; and one great grandchild, Leslie King of Clarksville, TN. Lela McCoy, 94, Morganfield, died 3:10pm Friday, Aug. 14, at Medco Nursing Home in Morganfield. Mrs. McCoy was born Aug. 22, 1903 in White Co., IL to Spencer & Ona Vanaway, was a member of the Eastern Star. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arley (Pete) McCoy who died on Sept. 19, 1970.Services were held Sunday at Whitsell Funeral Home in Morganfield. Brother Gary Ashby officiated. She was preceded in death by her husband Herman Hardesty, who died in 1985. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Joseph T. Imboden, USMC Retired, and by her second husband, James M. Mary Lee Markham, 54, Morganfield, died 12:01 am Tuesday, Aug. 18, at her residence. Mrs. Markham was born Dec. 20, 1943 in Logan, OH to Sherman Albert Woolever and Nora Lee (Woodring) Woolever. Survivors inlcude her husband of 36 years, Kenneth A. Markham; one daughter, Rose Elsey of Morganfield; three sons, Kenneth A. Markham Jr of Morganfield, Danny Markham of Sturgis and Sherman Markham of Tujunga, CA; two sisters, Betty Goforth of New Haven, IL and Judy Sisco of Eldorado, IL; three brothers, Roy Woolever and Eugene Woolever, both of Grayville, IL., and Albert Woolever of Princeton, KY; and twelve grandchildren. Surviving are her husband, Jim; two sons, Sam of Henderson, and Mike of Sturgis; her father, Sam Forbes of Sturgis; five grandchildren and five stepgrandchildren. Richard Edgar Carrier, 97, Sturgis, died 12:25 am Thursday, Aug. 20, at Medco Nursing Home in Morganfield. Mr. Carrier was a 50 year coal miner, a mine rescue person, and taught First Aid to coal miners. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rebecca, who died in 1962, and his sister, Ima Louise Carrier, who died in 1994. Survivors include one daughter, Naomi Foster of Mt. Vernon, IN; four sons, Richard I. Carrier of Sturgis, Edgar Carrier of Morganfield, Thomas V. Carrier of Enid, OK., and Joseph H. Carrier of Lewisport, KY; several grandchildren and several great grandchildren. Services were held Saturday at Whitsell Funeral Home in Sturgis. Burial was in Pride-Bordley Cemetery, Union County. Bennie Greenwell, 76, of Morganfield, died Saturday night at St. Mary's Medical Center in Evansville. He retired from C&C Ford Mercury in 1993, and was a service manager for 42 years at Davis Ford. A WWII Navy Veteran, he was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church, American Legion Griggs Alvey Post 48, and Veterans of Foreign Wars. Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Kathleen ; four daughters, Sally Beaven and Susan Price, both of Morganfield, Lora Lee Duncan of Uniontown, and Mary Kay Heppler of Sturgis; one son, Randy of Morganfield; two sisters, Louise Mills of Morganfield and Aylene Humphrey of Fort Pierce, FL; three brothers, Marion, J.M., and Drury, all of Morganfield; 15 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Anna Lucille Green, 73, formerly of Beaver Dam, died Friday, Aug. 22. She was a member of the New Harmony Baptist Church in Butler County. Surviving are two sons, William of Morganfield and Bobby of Sturgis; a sister, Beulah Nanney of Beaver Dam; two brothers, Edward "Buck" Johnson of Beaver Dam and Glendon Johnson of Morgantown; four grandchildre and four great grandchildren. Her husband, Archie, died in 1997. Services were at 1pm Tuesday at William L. Danks Funeral Home in Beaver Dam, with burial in Taylortown Cemetery in Ohio County.
