Survived by his wife of 69 years, Vaneria Cowan Farmer; one daughter, Clara Margaret Hubbard of Evansville; two sons, Joe and Bill, both of Morganfield; seven grandchildren and nine gr. grandchildren. Services were Thur. Aug. 5, 1999 at the Rose Creek Cumberland Presbyterian Church with entombment in the Lakeview Cemetery Mausoleum in Providence. Mr. Farmer was a member of Rose Creek Cumberland Presbyterain Church in Hopkins County where he served as an elder and Sunday School teacher. He was a retired farmer and was active in many farm organizations and attended Western Kentucky State Teachers College in Bowling Green. BERYL "BEA" SPRINGER - 88, Evansville, IN, died Sat. July 31, 1999 at the Good Samaritan Home in Evansville. Preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Earl Springer in 1979. They had been married 49 years. Survived by two daughters, Jody Sigler and Bonnie Tingley, both of Evansville; one son, Ralph L. of Murfreesboro, TN; ten grandchildren, nine gr. grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Funeral Services were held Mon Aug. 2, 1999 at the Alexander East Chapel in Evansville with burial in Pythian Ridge Cemetery in Sturgis, KY. Beryl was a member of Heritage Baptist Church. She was a member of the Ladies Prayer Group, Bible Study and the church choir. She served as the Church Clerk, Sunday School Superintendent and a Bible School Leader. She loved to arrange flowers and gardening. VERNON A. GALLOWAY - 60 of Uniontown, died Sat. July 31, 1999 at the Harrisburg Medical Center in Harrisburg, IL. Preceded in death by his sister Catherine Galloway. Survivved by his wife Evelyn; seven nieces and nephews; Services were held Wed. Aug 4, 1999 at teh Whitsell Funeral Home in Morganfield with burial in Odd Fellos Cemetery in Morganfield. ORA LEE DURBIN - 87 of Sturgis, died Thur. July 29, 1999 at the Senior Citizens Nursing Home in Madisonville. Survived by four daugthers, Dorthy Hinton of Madisonville, Dottie Rudd of Hanson, Katherine Sutton of Marion and Caroline Denton of Tacoma, WA; one son, Herman Curnel of Princeton, KY; twenty-one grandchildren and several gr. grandchildren. Funeral services were held Sat. July 31, 1999 at the Gilbert Funeral Home in Marion with burial in the Whites Chapel Cemetery. CECILIA WHITMORE - 84 of Morganfield, died Wed. July 28, 1999 at the Colonial Terrace Nursing Home in Sebree, Ky. Preceded in death by husband Raymond in 1987. Survived by one daughter, Sandra Wedding of Briston, TN; one son, Don Whitmore of Robards, KY; one sister, Hallie Vorbeck of Henderson; one brother, Royce VanCleave of Morganfield; four grandchildren and ten gr. grandchildren. Funeral Services were held Sat. July 31, 1999 at the St. Peter's Catholic Church in Waverly with burial in St. Ann Cemery in Morganfield. Mrs. Whitmore was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church in Waverly. Her work included St. Vincent Academy, Our Lady of Mercy Hospital and Union County Hospital where she retired in 1978. She also served as a volunteer Pink Lady at Henderson Community Hospital and was a member of several card clubs in the Waverly area. She was a member of Union County Homemakers for several years. Mrs. Whitmore was born on May 18, 1915 in Union County, KY to Joseph Alphonso VanCleave and Ruby (Rowland) VanCleave. CORA G. IVIE - 93 of Uniontown died Tues. July 27, 1999 at the Redbanks Nursing Home in Henderson. Preceded in death by her husband, Bob. Survived by one dauther, Theresa Montgomery of Sebree; one step-daugther, Ann Shofner of Morganfield; two sons, Donald Pike of Madisonville and James L. Girten of El Paso, TX; two sisters, Catherine Powell and Lucille Walker, both of Henderson; several nieces and nephews; twelve grandchildren; 20 gr. grandchildren; three gr. gr. grandchildren. Funeral services were held Fri. July 30,1999 at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Uniontown with burial in St. Agnes Cemetery in Uniontown. WILLIAM A "BILL" LYNN SR. - 81 of Morganfield died Tues. July 27, 1999 at the Redbanks Nursing Home in Henderson. Preceded in death by his wife Lottie Lynn in 1987. Survived by seven daughters, Ellen Mattingly, Judy Brummett, Debbie Wolfe all of Morganfield, Dianna Lynn, Kathy Jackson both of Henderson, Peggy Hendrix of Salem, IL., and Patricia Montgomery of Farmersburg, IL; two sons, Stephen and William Jr, both of Morganfield; one sister, Virginia Corbett of Evansville; several nieces and nephews; 23 grandchildren; 21 gr. grandchildren and one gr. gr. grandchild. Funeral services were held Fri. July 30, 1999 at Whitsell Funeral Home in Morganfield with burial in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Morganfield. Mr. Lynn was a member of Grove Center Baptist Church and a member of The American Legion Griggs-Alvey Post #48. He was born July 31, 1918 to Henry Lynn and Laura (Emerson) Lynn in Webster County, KY FELIX D. SIMPSON - 83 of Sturgis died Sun. Aug. 1, 1999 at the Methodist Hosptial in Morganfield. Survivors inlcude his wife of 38 years, Margorie; two daughters, Felicai Grounds and Rebecca Hasselstrom both of Henderson; one son, Kevin of Riverside, CA; one sister, Virginia Pope of Sturgis; two brothers, Faust and Sidney, both of Morganfield; two grandchildren, Morganne and Evan Grounds of Henderson. Services were held Wed. Aug. 4, 1999 at Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Sturgis with burial in Pythian Ridge Cemetery. Mr. Simpson was a lifetime Member of Sturgis Cumberland Presbyterian Church where he served as an elder and a Sunday School teacher. Her served as Sturgis City Judy in the 1960's. He retired from Farmers State Bank in 1979. (obit on page 5) REV. VIRGIL T. RICE - 78 of Sturgis, died Sat. July 24, 1999 at his home in Chicago. Surviving are his wife Mary Rice; one son, John of Chicago and three grandchildren, Konica, Earl and Sheilena Rice. Services were held Sat. July 31, 1999 at the Mount Sterling Presbyterian Church in Sturgis with burial in New Salem Cemetery. Mr. Rice had been a funeral director at Progressive Home in Chicago. MARSHALL WAYNE HUGHES SR. - 54 of Sturgis died Tues. Aug. 3, 1999 at his residence in Sturgis from a battle with cancer. Survivors include his wife of 32 years, Margie; two daughters, Crystal Boyland and husband Jerry and Cabrina, all of Sturgis; four sons, Marshall Jr and wife Kellie, Melvie and wife Lashon, Michael and Chris, all of Sturgis; two sisters, Barbara Ann of Indianapolis, IN., Sharon Fowler of Providence; six brothers, Jesse Jr and Maurice both of Champaign, IL., Tiny, Don and Robert all of Indianapolis, IN., Charlie of NC; Aunt Betty Garnett of Sturgis; five grandchildren. Services were held Aug. 7, 1999 at the New Salem Baptist Church in Sturgis with burial in New Salem Cemetery. He was a coal miner at Ohio 11 Mines and a member of UMWA. He was also an active member of New Salem Baptist Church for 22 years until his death, and he was a Deacon at the church. JOHN RICHARD WADDELL JR. - 65 of Benton, KY died Sun. Aug. 1, 1999 at his home. Preceded in death by his father, John Richard Waddell Sr. in 1998, Mother Ina Edward Powell Waddell in 1976 and granddaughter, Andrea Epps in 1993. Survived by his wife Carolyn Owen Waddell of Benton; two daughters, Jamie S. Epps of Paducah and Terry Ann Sams of Benton; five sons, Brad of Smithland, Charles E and David L, both of Benton, Daniel R. of Port Orange, FL., and Jeffrey Owen Waddell of Florence, SC; two sisters, Glenna Graham of Sturgis and Patricia Nesbitt of Daytona, OH; two brothers, Donald E. of Chandler, IN., and Ronald of Jacksonville, FL; twenty grandchildren; twelve gr. grandchildren; and fourteen gr. gr. grandchildren. Services were Thur. Aug. 5, 1999 at the Church of God of Prophecy in Sturgis with burial in Pythian Ridge Cemetery. He was the owner and operator of 68 Motors in Palma, KY. Mr. Waddell was born Jan. 6, 1934. HANK WILKES - 69 of Sturgis, formerly of Huntsville, AL, died Mon. Aug. 9, 1999 at the Medco Center in Henderson, KY. He is survived by his wife of 23 years Linda Mackey Wilkes; one daughter, Connie Davis of Huntsville, AL; three sons Bradley and wife Shirley, Michael, and Douglas, al of Huntsville, AL; one brother, Wallace Wilkes of Huntsville, AL; one grandchild. Services were Thur. Aug. 12, 1999 at the Whitsell Funeral Home in Sturgis with burial Pythian Ridge Cemetery. He was a Navy veteran serving during the Korean War. He was an alumni of the University of Alabama, 1957. He was a retired-electrical engineer for the US Army. HARRY D. PADGETT - 75 of Morganfield died Fri. Aug. 6, 1999 at the Methodist Hospital in Henderson, KY. Preceded in death by Martha Ann Padgett on June. 11, 1999. Survived by one daughter, Karen Duckworth of Morganfield; one son, Bill of Morganfield; three sisters, Janice Pravecek and Mary Cissell both of Morganfield, Eloise Spaulding of Evansville, IN; five brothers, Leroy and Wiley of Morganfield, Clyde of Henderson, Edward of Paducah, and Murray of Indianapolis, IN; two grandchildren, Michael & Shane Duckworth; one great grandchild, Taylor Duckworth. Funeral services were held Mon. Aug. 9, 1999 at the St. Ann Catholic Church in Morganfield with burial in the St. Ann Cemetery. He was a member of the St. Ann Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, a WWII Army Veteran, a Boy Scout Leader and he retired from the Kentucky Utilities after 33 years. JOHNNY WAYNE BROWN - 44 of Henderson, formerly of Clay, died Mon. Aug. 2, 1999 in Union County. Survived by his wife Deborah; two daugthers, Sarah and Hannah, both of Henderson; his mother and step father, Dorothy and Grady Owen of Sturgis; his father and step mother, Wayne and Bobbie Brown of Clay; one sister Dolores Bradshaw of Sturgis; two brothers, Mike of South Boston, MA and Benji of Sturgis; his grandparents, Guy and Goldie Brown of Dixon. Services were held Thur. Aug. 5, 1999 at the Grace Baptist Church in Clay with burial in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Clay. Mr. Brown was a member of the Airline Baptist Church. MAXINE BRIGHTMAN - 69 of Sturgis died Tues. Aug. 3, 1999 at her residence. Preceded in death by her husband Thomas M. Brightman in 1996. Survived by one son, James David Brightman of FL; Graveside services were held at the Rosebud Cemetery in Crittenden County on Fri. Aug. 6, 1999.
