Contributed by "MDT" ***************************************************************************** George Gordon Blanford, 56, of West Point, Ky, died at 5:30am Tuesday at St. Mary and Elizabeth Hospital in Louisville of a heart attack. He was a Civil Service employee at Fort Knox, having had 28 years experience in this business. Born and reared in Union County, he was the son of Mrs. Laura Blanford of Morganfield, and the late Herman Blanford. He was a member of the Catholic Church at West Point. Mr. Blanford was a veteran of World War II, and was a prisoner of war in Germany. Following his discharge, he served as a Civil Service employee at Camp Breckinridge in Union County until his transfer to Fort Knox. Besides his mother, other survivors include his wife, Madeline Hazel Blanford; five daughters, Mrs. Patsy Duke, Mrs. Cathy Spalding, Mrs. Flavia Morris, and Misses Evelyn and Martha Blanford, all of West Point; seven grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs. Charles (Frieda) Wolfe and Mrs. James (Helen) Wolfe, both of Morganfield, Mrs. Luiclle Liessee, Dalzell, Il, and Mrs. Betty Buckman of Buda, IL; and three brothers, Thomas Jr of Wyanett, Il, David of Sterling, IL, and Larry Blanford of Maryland. Another son, Tony was drowned in California last July and was buried in Morganfield, and a daughter, Connie, 10, died following a tonsilectomy operation. The Rosary will be said at Whitsell Funeral Home in Sturgis at 8pm Thursday with final rites at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church in Sturgis at 11am Friday, Father Clarence Hite, pastor officiating. Burial will be in Hazel Bend Cemetery near Sturgis. (Death date was 7 Apr 1981)(This obit failed to mention his one living son, Joe) (Also son Tony was buried in Sturgis, not Morganfield)
