Hubbie Owens, 92, Sturgis, died Thursday, January 7, 1999 at Methodist Hospital, Union County. He was preceded in death by his wife Evelyn in 1996. Survivors include one daughter, Anna DeMoss, DeKoven; one son, Bill Owens, DeKoven; one brother, Kelly Owens of Las Vegas, NV; three grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Funeral services were held Saturday January 9, 1999 at Whitsell Funeral Home in Sturgis. Rev. Don Collins officiated. Burial was at Grangertown Cemetery. Mr. Owens was a member of Grangertown Baptist Church. A retired John Deere mechanic and a WWII veteran. (personal note) The three grandchildren are Maria DeMoss Troutman, Mark DeMoss and Randy Owens. Mona Venda Kirchner, 94, Caseyville, died January 5, 1999 at her residence. Survivors include her husband Kenneth Kirchner, Caseyville; one daughter, Carole Faye Stice, Nashville, TN; one nephew, one granddaughter and one great grandson. Funeral Services were Friday, January 8, 1999 at Whitsell Funeral Home in Sturgis with Rev. Ken Berggren officiating, with burial at Caseyville Cemetery. Johnson, Morganfield, died Wednesday, January 6, 1999 at Methodist Hospital in Henderson. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille in 1995. Survivors include one sister, Mary Springer, Sturgis; one brother, James C. Johnson, Sturgis. Services were held Friday, January 8, 1999 at Whitsell Funeral Home in Morganfield. The Rev. Mark Galloway officiated with burial at Pythian Ridge Cemetery in Sturgis. Mr. Johnson was a member of Morganfield First Baptist Church. Irene Pease, 75, Dawson Springs, died January 5, 1999 at Regional Medical Center in Madisonville. She was preceded in death by her husband J. C. Pease in 1981. Survivors include one daughter, Debbie Ellis, Morganfield; Ronnie Pease, Providence, Dennis Pease, St. Charles, Keith Pease, Dawson Springs; three sisters, Carolyn Taylor, Victorville, CA, Thelma Ratley, Sturgis, Lucille Pease, Sturgis; one brother, Douglas Pease, Dawson Springs and four grandchildren. Nadine (Taylor) Stone, 79, Berkley, Michigan, formerly of Sturgis, died Wednesday, January 6, 1999 at her home. Survivors include two daughters, Carolyn Stone of Wixom, MI and Jackie Stone of Rochester Hills, MI; one brother, Jack Taylor of Victorville, CA; four grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Services were held Friday January 8, 1999 at Berkley, MI Memorial gifts can be made to Hospice. Roy Waggener, 82, Grove Center, died January 7, 1999 at St. Mary's Medical Center in Evansville. Survivors include one sister, Dallas Steward, of the "Y" community and one brother, Billie Waggener of Sturgis and nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Monday, January 11, 1999 at Whitsell Funeral Home in Sturgis. Rev. Don House officiated with burial in Pythian Ridge Cemetery in Sturgis. Mr. Waggener was a long time member of Grove Center Methodist Church and a former member of Civilian Conservation Corps. Veteran of US Air Corps during WWII. Past Master of Kelsey Masonic Lodge in Sturgis, and former employee of Union County Trade School. George Junior Duncan, 74, Richmond, VA, and formerly of Union County, died Wednesday, Dec. 23, 1998 at a hospital in Richmond. He was born to George Edward and Mary Jennie Mae Greenwell Duncan on August 12, 1924. He was preceded in death by his father in September of 1978, his mother in October of 1984, his oldest brother Morris Edward Duncan in October of 1983 and a younger brother in 1932. George was a veteran of WWII serving in the US Army. He married and made his home and reared his family in Richmond, VA. He was employed with the Hercules Chemical Co., in Hopewell, VA for 33 years from where he retired early due to declining health. He was a mechanic and electrician and worked with heating and refrigeration at the company. George enjoyed playing golf, fishing, car races, traveling, and visiting his many families and friends. George is survived by his wife, Emma (Jones) Duncan to whom he married 28 years on the day of his death, Dec. 23., three daughters, Kay Duncan Carson, Toni Miller, both of Dinwiddie, VA., and Georgie Ann and son in law Leroy Morgan; one son, Charlie Duncan, several grandchildren and great grandchildren all of VA. Local survivors included three sisters, Mabel Reburn, Morganfield, Mary Frances H. Fletcher, and Martha Russellburg and a sister in law Mrs, Katherine (Morris) Duncan, all of Sturgis; two brothers, Joe Duncan of Morganfield and Earl Glenn Duncan of Sturgis. Also nieces and nephews and cousins survive. Funeral services were held Monday, Dec. 28 at 2pm at Bliley Funeral Home and burial was in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Richmond, VA. Bill Duff, 64, Uniontown, died Thursday, January 14, 1999 at St. Mary's Medical Center in Evansville. He was survived by one daughter, Debbie Coker, Uniontown; one son, Billy Duff, Uniontown; four sisters, Shirley Baker, Sullivan, Mary Wright, Joyce Overfield, Betty Clements, all of Henderson; four grandchildren and one great grandchild. Carter, 86, of Waldo, FL, formally of DeKoven, KY, died Wed. Jan. 6, 1999 at The Florida Medical Center in Gainsville, FL of a Heart Attack. Survivors include his wife, Imogene Carter, Waldo, FL; three sons, Charles Carter, Booneville, IN., William Carter, Colon, MI., George Robertson, Jackson, FL; three daughters, Barbra Burgett, Fairfield, TN., Ardith Hoath, Union City, MI., and Susan Xorron, Archer, FL; two sisters, Edith Carter and Margaruiette Owen, both of DeKoven; twenty grandchildren, twenty-five great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, cousins and a host of friends. Miller, 55, of Morganfield, died Sunday, January 17, 1999, at his residence. Survivors include his parents, Mr. Urey Miller adn Mrs. Elizabeth Miller, of Morganfield; three daughters, Dennae Miller, Dominque Miller, Delisha Miller, all of Owensboro; one sister, Peggy Casey of Indianapolis, IN; several nieces and nephews and six grandchildren. Heady, 46, of Sturgis, died Tuesday Dec. 29, 1998 at Crittenden County Health Systems. Survivors include her husband Houston Heady of Sturgis; one son, Michael Heady of Sturgis; three sisters, Pat Burnette of Sturgis, Loretta Adamson and Sarah Rhea Duvall both of Grove Center; two brothers, Randy McMain and Billy Melloy both of Sturgis. Donations can be made to American Cancer Society. Mrs. Heady was born on July 29, 1952 to Liston McMain and Lillian Straker in Union County, KY. Delmar E. Powell, 74, Sturgis, died Saturday, Jan. 2, 1999 at his residence. He was preceded in death by his son, Ronnie Powell. Survivors include his wife, Helen Powell of Sturgis; two daughters, Helen Bunner, Sturgis and Elizabeth Austin of Norris City, IL; one sister, Doris Cavins of Henderson; eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren. The funeral was held Monday, Jan. 4, at Whitsell Funeral Home in Sturgis, Rev. A.G. Winters officiated with burial at Pythian Ridge Cemetery in Sturgis. Mr. Powell was retired after 35 years with Henderson-Union Electric Cooperative, WWII Veteran, a Paratrooper with 11 Airborne Division where he won several medals. Life membre of VFW and member of American Legion. Mr. Powell was born Feb. 22, 1924 in Sturgis to the late Thomas Edward Powell and Frances Brantley. Harry Brooks, 94, Sturgis, died Wednesday, Dec. 30, 1998, at Shemwell Nursing Home in Providence. Surviving are his wife, Mary K. Brooks; two daughters, Berry Ann Craig, Knoxivlle, TN and Harri Kay Gaster of Rockwell, NC; and two grandchildren, Guy Brooks and Travis Gaster. Memorial services were held during regular worship services Sunday at the United Methodist Church. There was no visitation at Whitsell Funeral Home. Mr. Brooks was owner of the Ford Garage in Sturgis for more than 40 years before retiring in 1981. He was also a member of Sturgis Methodist Church and he was on city council for more than 12 years. Memorial contributions can be made to Sturgis Methodist Church Building fund or to charity of your choice. Christopher Leslie Herdel, 56, Henderson, died Monday, Dec. 28, 1998 at Methodist Hospital. Survivors include his wife of 19 years, Kathy; two daughters, Leslie White of Eddyville and Nikki Conway of Sturgis; one step daughter, Ginger Boarman, Evansville; one stepson, Skip Sandefur; one step sister, Ellie Hartz of Lexington; one brother, Gail L. Herdel of Morganfield; three granddaughters, nieces and nephews. Services were held Thursday, Dec. 31, 1998 at Rudy-Rowland Funeral Home. The Rev. Thom Webster officiated, with burial at Fairmont Cemetery. He was a member of St. Lucas United Church of Christ in Evansville, where he belonged to the Friends In Faith Sunday school class and he was employed as a warehouse man for Lodestar Energy for 24 years. He was a former teacher and coach at Sturgis Middle School in Sturgis and at Mitchell High School in Mitchell, IN. He was also a graduate of the University of Evansville where he was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity. Mae Anna Thompson, 95, died on Dec, 31, 1998 at North Park Nursing Center in Evansville. She was preceded in death by her husband Hugh Thompson. Survivors include a nephew and nieces. The funeral was held Saturday, Jan. 2, 1999 at Kriehaus-Sansom Funeral Home and St. Benedict Church. Father Harold Hammerstien officiated with burial at St. Joseph Cemetery. Elizabeth Goben, 74, died Saturday, Jan. 2, 1999 at St. Mary’s Medical Center. Survivors include his wife, Margaret Bebout of Morganfield; two daughters, Mary Rush, Morganfield and Sharon Carr of Burfordsville, MO; two sons, Dr. William Bebout of Morganfield and James “Buddy” Bebout of Flippin, AR; four sisters, Virginia Bebout of Morganfield, Levada Fellows of Ashley, OH, Ethel Wiggins of Evansville and Mildred Wohlwend of Benton, IL; one brother, J. Survivors include one daughter, Anjel Warren, Chicago; a son, Joseph Holmes of Sturgis; his mother, Carrie Dixon, Sturgis; three sisters, Carrie Johnson, Mary Hammack and Sylvia Jones, all of Chicago; a brother, Hubert Archer of Henderson; a grandson and nieces and nephews. Services will be held today at 3pm at Carr Chapel Baptist Church in Morganfield, with burial in the Presbyterian Cemetery in Sturgis. Mason Bros. Bennie Allen Hackey, 40, of Princeton, died Wed. Jan. 20, 1999, at his home. Survivors include his daughter, Lacy Marie Hackey, Evansville; his parents, Charles & Shirley Hackey of Marion; five sisters, Diann Shuecraft, Sharon Tinsley and Donita James, all of Marion; Naomi Garret of Morganfield; and Jeanette Doom of Mexico; five brothers, Eddie Clark and Joey, both of Marion, Ronnie of Smithland and Dean of Ledbetter; and nieces and nephews. Lorene Steward, 79, Morganfield, died Sunday, Jan. 24, 1999 at Methodist Hospital in Henderson. Mrs. Steward was preceded in death by her husband, Harry in 1991 and a son, Gary (Jock) Steward in 1984. Survivors include two dauthters, Connie Ratley of Sturgis and Marianne Hazel of Raceland, KY; two son, Darrell (Monk) Steward of Sturgis and Eddie Steward of Morganfield; nine grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
