DOUGLAS D. YOUNG - 66 of Dekoven, died Thur. July 1, 1999 at the Methodist Hospital in Morganfield. Survived by his wife, Johanna Elsie Young of 38 years; one daughter, Stacia Meeker of Peoria, AZ; five sons, Brian of Sturgis, Jame of Poole, Anthony of Seattle, WA., Douglas C of Indianapolis, IN., and Charles A., of Dekoven; one sister, Doris Lee Wittenbrink of El Paso, TX; one brother, Roger Young of Roseclaire, IL; sixteen grandchilren and 3 gr. grandchildren. Services were held Sat. July 3, 1999 at Whitsell Funeral Home in Sturgis with burial in Pythain Ridge Cemetery. Mr. Young was a retired coal miner from Peabody Coal Company. He was employed with them from 1968-1985, he was also a retired Deputy Jailer, employed from 1986-1998. Mr. Young was the Editorial Cartoonist for the Union County Advocate. He was a Navy Veteran and served in the Korean War. BESSIE DRANE - 101 of Sturgis, died Thurs. July 1, 1999 at her residence in Sturgis. Survivors include one son, Russell Drane of Sturgis; four grandchildren; eight step grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; nineteen great step grandchildren. Services were held on Tues. July 6, 1999 at CME Church in Sturgis with burial in the Presbyterian Cemetery. Mrs. Drane was a member of the CME Church in Sturgis and a Kentucky Colonel. CHARLES E. "CHICK" DAVIS - 72 of Sturgis, died Sat. July 3, 1999 at his residence of cancer. Mr. Davis was a life long member and Elder of the First Presbyterian Church. He was a former Chairman of the Union County School Board and chairman of the Union County Water District. He was also a former Kiwanis Citizen of the Year. Mr. Davis was born Apr. 2, 1927 near Sturgis to Charles Eberly and Cappie Caudill Davis. Mr. Davis is survived by his wife , Betty M; three daughters, Sarah Ricketts and Anne Ryan of Sturgis, Mary Davis of Peoria, IL; two sons, Eberley Davis of Lexington, KY and Charles M of Sturgis; one brother, Robert M of Sturgis; nine grandchildren; Funeral services were held on Tues. July 6, 1999 at the First Presbyterian Church with burial in Pythian Ridge Cemetery in Sturgis. July 15, at the Regional Medical Center in Madisonville. He was a truck driver and had retired from Clay Machine Works. Survived by his wife, Ann, one son, Roger of Nortonville; four sisters, Thelma Adams of Nashville, TN., Charline Bryant of Fenton, MO., Lou Syers of Sturgis., and Lois Galbreath of Newburgh, IN; three brothers, Darrell Rich of Cadiz, Billy of Sturgis and Kenneth of Nortonville and two grandchildren. Services were held Sun. July 18, 1999 at Townsend-Jones Funeral Home in Providence with burial in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Clay, KY. LEE HOPWOOD - 86 of Clay, died Tues. July 13 at Morganfield Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. a member of the First General Baptist Church in Clay, he served in the South Pacific during WWII in the Army Anti-Artillary Battalion. Survived by his wife of 62 years, Dorothy; two daughters, Linda League of Clay and Marsha Johnston of Madisonville; one son, Roger of Providence; ons sister, Gertie Lovell of Sturgis; one brother, F. T. Hopwood of Oak Ridge, TN; seven grandchildren, 2 step granddaughters; 10 gr. grandchildren and 3 step gr. grandchildren. Services were held Fri., July 16, 1999 at the First General Baptist Church in Clay with burial in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Clay. CHARLES THOMAS SALE - 51 of Colorado Springs, CO, died Wed. July 14, 1999. He is preceded in death by his parents, William H. and Louise Sale of Sturgis. Survivors include his wife, Lynn Sale and stepson Stephen of Colorado Springs; two brothers, Billy Sale formerly of Henderson, Ronnie Sale of Dekoven; two nieces Mary Lou Russelburg of Henderson, and Meredith Ann Sale of Sturgis; two nephews, Billy Sale Jr of Smith Mills, KY., and Richard Sale of Dekoven. "Tommy" (as he was known my all) was a 1966 graduate of Union County High School, a retried Senior Master Seargant adn Vietnam Vet for the US Air Force. Burial was in Colorado Springs. A.Y. HODGE SR. - 89 of Sullivan, died Tues. July 13, at the Methodist Hospital in Henderson. Preceded in death by son Irby Hodge in 1968 and his wife Mary in 1976. Survived by wife Dorothy J. Hodge of Sullivan; one daugther, Beth Moran of Henderson; one son, A. Y. Hodge Jr. of Sullivan; one sister, Fedilia Powell of Corydon; five grandchildren, Rebecca Moran, Stacy Hodge, A. Y. Preceded in death by her father, Clinton O'Nan in 1971. Survived by her husband, Jerry Farmer; her mother, Patty Ashby and stepfather Norm Ashby of Henderson; one daughter, Johna Miller of Morganfield; two sisters, Marilyn Brandon of Henderson and Jerri Willingham of Evansville, IN; four brothers, Paul O'Nan of Henderson, David O'Nan & William C. OPAL MAE O'NEAL - 78 of Pride, died Mon. July 25, 1999 in Morganfield. Preceded in death by her husband Essel D. O'Neal in 1978. Survived by one daughter, Sandy Cowan and Dale Cowan (son in law), both of Pride; one son, Ray O'Neal and Sharon O'Neal (daugther in law) of Clayton, IN., one sister, Frankie Gass of Marion; one brother, Edwin Martin of Evansville, IN; two grandchildren, one gr. grandchild and two step grandchildren. Mr. & Mrs. O'Neal owned O'Neal Grocery Store in Pride for severalyears. GABRELLA D. RAPIER - 91 of Morganfield, died Sun. July 25, 1999 at the Methodist Hospital in Morganfield. Preceded in death by her husband, Tom who died in 1984. Survived by one cousin, Thelma Burkes of Morganfield; nieces and nephews. Services were held Sat. July 31, 1999 at the Whitsell Funeral Home in Morganfield with burial in St. Ann Cemetery in Morganfield. JAMES E. PRAVECEK - 68 of Morganfield died Sat. July 24, 1999 at his residence from a battle with cancer. Survivors include his wife Janice ; four nieces, Diana Moore and husband Dennis Cato, Dixie and husband Bob Cory, Rhonda Van Dyke, Renee and her husband Chris Patterson; three nephews, Richard and his wife Jamie Pravecek, Robert and his wife Terry Pravecek, and Randy Pravecek; six brother in laws; three sister in laws. Funeral Services held Mon. July 26, 1999 at St. Ann Catholic Church with burial in St. Ann Cemetery. He was a member of St. Ann Church and a veteran of the Korean Conflict. RALEIGH SEAGRAVES - 86 of Eldorado, IL, died Sat. July 24, 1999 at his home. Survived by his wife of 64 years, Mary (Healy); one daughter, Shirley Farmer of Morganfield; one sister, Madeline Seagraves of Eldorado, IL; one granddaughter, Joni Hall; two step grandchildren, Kaylin and Jeff Farmer and twin great grandsons. Services were held on Mon. July 26, 1999 at the Watson Funeral Home with burial in Jackson Cemetery in Ridgeway, IL. Mr. Seagraves was a farmer. RAYMOND E. "BUCK" FLOYD - 74 of Uniontown died Wed. July 21, 1999 at the Methodist Hospital in Henderson. Preceded in death by his parents, Tuck and Mary J. Floyd. Survived by his wife, Wilma Jean; four step daughters, Dee Dee Piper, Wanona Alexander, Brandi Guyot, and Lindsey Caldwell all of Uniontown; one son, Ray Floyd of Grand Blanc, MI; one sister, Jeanette Hutchinson of Uniontown; two grandchildren; five step grandson; two great grandchildren. Funeral Services were Sat. July 24, 1999 at St. Agnes Church in Uniontown with burial in St. Agnes Cemetery. He was a US Navy Veteran having served as a radio operator on a submarine during WWII. He was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church, had served as Treasurer of the Knights of Columbus and was Past Commander of the Uniontown VFW Post 5488. SKYLAR HUNT PAUL - 2 year old daughter of Michael and Tammy Paul of Sebree died on Tues. July 20, 1999 at the Kosair Children's Hospital in Louisville. Survivors other than her parents include three brothers, Nicholas Paul of Sebree and Matthew and Josh Logan both of Florida; her grandparents, James Paul and Janice Lynkins of Sebree; and Martin and Brenda Sheffer of Morganfield; and her great grandparents, Nina Scott of Henderson and Reuben and Pauline Sheffer of Morganfield; and Joe and Mary Paul of Sebree. Funeral Services were held Sat. July 24, 1999 at the Tompkins Funeral Home at the Sebree-Poole Chapel in Sebree with burial in Springdale Cemetery in Sebree.
