LOUISE COLLINS Louise Collins, 87, of Sturgis, died at 8:25pm Monday, June 29, at Harborside Health Care Center of Bryan, Ohio. Mrs. Collins was a member of the First Christian Church in Sturgis. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sloan, in 1993; her daughter, Nancy Brown in 1995; and an infant daughter, Martha Lou Collins. Survivors include one daughter, Hilda Koch and her husband Paul of West Unity, OH; two sisters, Edna Collins of Sturgis and Glenna Reynolds of Brookport, IL; two brothers, Raymond Edmondson of Grand Island, NE and Bobby Edmondson of Denver, CO; one grandchild, David of Indianapolis, IN. Services will be at 2:00 Monday at the First Christian Church in Sturgis with the Rev. Jeff Bullock officiating. Burial will be Pythian Ridge Cemetery. Friends may call from 2:00 Sunday and until service time on Monday at the Whitsell Funeral Home in Sturgis. ALICE N. CURRY Alice N. Curry, 92, formerly of Morganfield, died Saturday, June 27, at 11:50am at Brownsburg Health Care of Brownsburg, IN. Mrs. Curry, a member of the Betheseda Baptist Church in Brownsburg, was a copy editor for Bobbs Merrill Printing Company in Indianapolis for 25 years, retiring in 1984. She was born Oct. 6, 1905 to Thomas Neel and Viola Chaney Neel in Morganfield, KY. Mrs. Curry was preceded in death by her husband, George Curry Jr. in 1961. Survivors include one daughter, Alice Singer of Indianapolis, IN; two sons, George Curry of Brownsburg, IN and Tommie Rhea Stapp of Henderson, KY; six grandchildren; nine great grandchildren. Services were held Tuesday at Whitsell Funeral Home, Morganfield, with George Curry officiating. Burial was in the Odd Fellow Cemetery in Morganfield. IRMA JEAN QUIREY WRIGHT Irma Jean Quirey Wright, 86, died on June 22 at a nursing home near the home of her son, Bill Wright, in Lexington, MA. She once was a resident of Sturgis, and graduated from Sturgis High School in 1929. She is survived by two sons, Bill and Larry of Louisville, KY; two grandsons and three granddaughters. Funeral and burial took place on Sunday afternoon in Sanford, FL. MARGARET HAMPTON Margaret Hampton, 85, Waverly, died at 7:30am Tuesday, June 23, at Union County Methodist Hospital in Morganfield, KY. She was a member of the St. Peter Catholic Church. Ms. Hampton was preceded in death by her husband, Wade, in 1949. Only cousins survive. Services were held Thursday, June 25, at St. Peter Catholic Church in Waverly with Fr. Bob Willett officiating. Burial was in the St. Peter Cemetery, Waverly, KY. REV. THOMAS H. CLARK Rev. Thomas H. Clark, 70, Cloverport, formerly of Morganfield, died Friday June 26 at Carmel Home of Owensboro. He was a pastor at St. Ann's in Morganfield for 11 years. He most recently served as pastor of St. Rose Catholic Church in Cloverport. He was pastor of Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church in Henderson from 1989 to 1995. He also served at numerous other churches, including ones in Morganfield, Owensboro, Princeton, Dawson Springs, and Bowling Green. He was a former chaplain at the state penitentiary in Eddyville. He served on the Priest Council from 1983 to 1989 and was a charter member of the Diocesan Liturgy Commission. Survivors include one sister, Rebecca Darst of Leitchfield; nieces and nephews. Services were on Monday at St. Stephen Cathedral in Owensboro. Burial was in Resurrection Cemetery, Owensboro. Callaway, 86, of Sturgis, died 2:55pm Monday, July 13th, at Union County Methodist Hospital in Morganfield. Mr. Callaway was a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Sturgis, a KY Colonel Ham Radio Operator, member of the first Sturgis Air Board, and a member of the Sturgis Masonic Lodge. He was retired from Alcoa. Survivors inluce his wife, Amelia of Sturgis; one son, Bill Tom Callaway of Sturgis; two grandchildren, Mark Callaway of Sturgis and Craig Callaway of Indianapolis; and three great grandchildren. Services will be held 10:00 Wednesday, July 15th at the Sturgis Whitsell Funeral Home. The Rev. Bert Owen will be officiating. Burial will be in the Pythian Ridge Cemetery in Sturgis. RALPH THOMAS HEAVRIN Ralph Thomas Heavrin, 71, Evansville, formerly of Morganfield, died at 2:40p Thursday, July 9, at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Ann, who died in 1985 and his son, Mark Thomas Heavrin who died in 1970. Survivors include four daughters, Gloria Reine of Newburgh, Karen Hobbs and Mary Weber, both of Nashville, TN., and Suzanne Beckham of Evansville; three sons, David Heavrin, James Heavrin and Donald Heavrin, all of Evansville; two sisters, Mary Virginia Kuhlenschmidt of Evansville, and Margaret "Duke" Byrd of Fraser, MI; 16 grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Services were held Monday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Evansville with the Revs. Brian Holtz and Joseph Englert officiating. Virginia St. FRANCES RICH Frances Rich, 65, of Clay, died at 3pm Friday, July 10, at her home. A member of the First General Baptist Church in Clay, she had been a foster parent for the state of Kentucky to more than 79 children. Survivors include one daughter, Amanda Taylor of Henderson; five sons, Alva Rich, James Rich and Christopher Rich, all of Clay, Jeremy Rich of Providence and Joe Rich of Henderon; her mother, Augusta Hogan of Providence; three sisters, Betty Owens and Barbara Papineau, both of Clay and Lorine Powell of Providence; five brothers, Robert Hogan of Providence, Gordan Hogan of Texas, Lee Hogan of Morganfield, and Darrell Hogan and Paul Hogan, both of Morganfield; and 10 grandchildren. Services were held Monday at the Vanover Funeral Home in Clay with Dr. Curtis Yarbrough officiating. Burial was in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Clay. Ray, 73, formerly of Sturgis, died 11:55 pm Saturday, July 11, at the Shelby Nursing Home in Shelby, Michigan. He was a resident of Chesterfield, MI. Mr. Ray was a WWII Navy Veteran and a retired plumber. He was born in Sturgis on January 24, 1925 to his parents James Ray and Zema Dempsey. Survivors include his wife, Veronica of Chesterfield, MI; one daughter, Margaret Ray of Chesterfield, MI; one son, Carl Ray of Chesterfield, MI; five sisters, Garnet Timmeric of Royal Oaks, MI., Boyce Collins of Sturgis, Shirley Darnell of Morganfield, Ann Urso of Warren, MI, and Martha Basso of Corunna, MI; two brothers, Carl Ray and Don Ray, both of Marion, KY; five grandchildren. Services will be held 9am Thursday, July 16, at the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Sturgis. The Bro. Robert Phillips will be officiating. Shelton, 68, died at 2pm Monday, July 20, at his residence in Morganfield. Mr. Shelton retired from Kentucky Utilities Co., with 34 years of service. He was a member of the Chamber of Commerce, past Citizen of the Year, past Officer of the Lion Club & Habitat for Humanity, a Kentucky Colonel and an Air Force Veteran. He was a member and elder of the Sturgis Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Sunday School teacher and also served on local and Presbyterial church boards. Mr. Shelton was born September 17, 1929, in Union County to Elliott and Madeline Price Shelton. Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Louise Brinkley Shelton; one daughter, Nancy Staton of Eddyville, KY; one son, Jim Shelton of Georgetown, IN; one sister, Mary Morgan of Columbus, GA; one aunt, Lorene Johnson of Owensboro, KY; two grandchildren, Derrick and Kevin Staton of Eddyville, KY. Services will be held 1pm Wednesday, July 22, at the Cumberlan Presbyterian Church in Sturgis. The Rev. Burt Owen will be officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery of Webster County. CLOVIS CHILDERS Clovis Childers, 79, died 2:30pm Friday, July 17, at his residence near Sturgis. Mr. Childers was a Word War II Navy Veteran. He was born in 1919 to the late Elisa Ellen Pierce and Jesse Allen Childers in Union County, Illinois. Survivors include his wife, Evelyn of Sturgis; two daughters, Mary Ann Stewart of Edmond, OK and Ellen Hammer of Paducah; one step daughter, Lois Hargrove of Sturgis; two sons, Robers Childers of Michigan, and David Childers of Cobdin, IL; three stepsons, Larry Grounds of Morganfield, Perry Hopper of Sturgis, and Robert Hopper of Marion, IL; one sister, Evelyn Reagan of Cleveland, OH; one brother, Ford Childers of Eldorado, IL; 16 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at a later date. There will be no visitation at the Whitsell Funeral Home. AUBREY SPAIN Aubrey Spain, 73, Uniontown, died 3:10pm Wednesday, July 15 at the Union County Methodist Hospital. Mr. Spain retired from the Job Corp Center in Morganfield after 18 years of service and was a World War II Navy Veteran. Survivors include his wife, Alberta; one stepson, Forest Cavins of Uniontown; one sister, Dell Richard of Milton, FL; one brother, James Carl Spain of Milton, FL; three step grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Services were held Saturday at the Morganfield Whitsell Funeral Home with Bro. Jim Adams officiating. Burial was in the Mt. Moriah Cemetery in Obion, TN. MARCUS LEE BUCKMAN Marcus Lee Buckman, 57, Uniontown, died Sunday, July 19 of natural causes. Mr. Buckman was a Navy veteran. He was born January 10, 1941 in Uniontown to Jim Tom and Beatrice Jenkins Buckman. He was preceded in death by a son, Anthony Lee Buckman in 1994. Survivors include his wife, Jeanette of Uniontown; one dauthter, Monica Courtney of Waverly; one son, Eddie Buckman of Uniontown; four sisters, Cecilia Hedges of Henderson, Georgia Smith of Louisville, OH., Clara O'Nan of Waverly and Mary Morris of New Lebanon, IN; six brothers, J. T. Buckman of Henderson, Bill Tom Buckman of Uniontown, John Robert Buckman, Charles Willard Buckman and Stephen Wayne Buckman, all of Waverly, Raymond Lloyd Buckman of Morganfield; four grandchildren. Ms. Jackson was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy in Sturgis. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy in 1988. Survivors include one daughter, Angie Vail of Morganfield; one sister, Gladys Dunaway of Morganfield and 3 grandchildren, Brandi Rich of Morganfield, Prissie Toman of Sturgis, and Carol Bistodeau of Minneapolis, MN. Collins, 86, died Wednesday in Columbus, OH. Ms. Collins was a member of The Redeemer's Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Milburn Collins. Survivors include one daughter, Millie Jarvis and her husband, Williard of Columbus; one son, Graves Collins and his wife Shirley, of CA; two sisters, Mildred Wilzbacher and Lera Kibbey, both of Evansville; one brother, Gordon Ghormley of Cadiz, KY; six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Funeral Services were held Monday at the Evans Funeral Home in Columbus, OH. The Rev Richard Allen officiated. Interment was Tuesday at the Pythian Ridge Cemetery in Sturgis with the Pastor Williard Jarvis officiating. MARY JENKINS TAYLOR Mary Jenkins Taylor, 82, died Sunday, July 19, in Denver, CO. Ms. Taylor was born July 23, 1915 in Sturgis, KY to her parents, Mr. & Mrs. J. E. Jenkins. She graduated from Sturgis High School in 1933. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Teddy Ann Fellows Mesch Rogers on July 16, 1991. Survivors include four grandchildren; six great grandchildren; two cousins, Virginia Thornsberry of Sturgis and Helen Collins Hunt of Danville, KY; and close friends Larry & Julia Crosson of Sturgis. CHARLES EDWARD HANCOCK DUKE Charles Edward Hancock Duke, 58, Henderson, died at 1am Thursday, July 23, at his home. Survivors include one son, Charles E. Duke of Evansville; his stepmother, Elizabeth Griffin of Evansville; one sister, Sue Gail House of Smith Mills; two brothers, Wallace Hancock of Grove Center, KY and Collis Hancock of Sturgis; three grandchildren. Services were held Saturday at Tapp Funeral Home with the Rev. Chuck Steprow officiating. Burial was in Smith Mills Cemetery. DALENA LORENE WISDOM Dalena Lorene Wisdom of Greely, MO., died Wednesday, July 22, at the Rolla Hospital in Rolla, MO. Services were held 11am Friday July 24, at the Spencer Chapel of Bunker, MO. Interment was in the Greely, MO cemetery. Attending the services from Sturgis were her brother, Lowell and Willard Hayes; her sister in law, Gwen Hayes; a nephew, Eugune Hayes and his wife Paula. Other nieces and nephews also survive in the local area. REV. HERSHEL BUMPUS The Rev. Hershel Bumpus, 81, died at 3pm Wednesday, July 22, at his home in Dixon. He was a General Baptist Minister for 40 years and a US Army Veteran. He was also a Kentucky Colonel, a former Mason and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Survivors include one daughter, April Gregrory of Ponte Vedra, FL; one son, Alan Bumpus of Corydon; one brother, Joe Bumpus of Sturgis; two grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Services were held Saturday at Rudy-Rowland Funeral Home. Burial was in the Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
