LOUISE MCLEMORE - 90, Wheatcroft, died Sat. June 5, 1999 at the Regional Medical Center in Madisonville. She attended Grace Baptist Church in Madisonville. Survivors include two sisters in law, including Molly McGaw of Sturgis; nieces and nephews. Services were held Monday at Vanover Funeral Home in Clay with burial in Evergreen Cemetery in Greenville. WILSON "ANDY" ANDREWS - 83, Providence, died Friday, June 4, 1999 at Methodist Hospital in Morganfield. He had retired from L&N Railroad after 33 years of service and was of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by his wife, Madalyn in 1994. Survivors include two daughters, Wanda Pendergraff of Morganfield and Linda Robinson of Providence; two son, Ronnie of Owensboro and Ricky of Providence; one sister, Doshie Joyce of Cynthiana, KY; 6 grandchildren; 6 gr. grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Services held Mon. June 7 at Melton Funeral Home in Providence with burial in Green Grove Cemetery in Providence. DANNY HOWARD - 47, Morganfield, died Tues. June 1, 1999 in Evansville. The death is under investigation by Vanderburg County Coroner. Survived by his mother, Cora Howard of Morganfield; one sister, Sherri Duncan of Morganfield; four brothers, Harris, David and Lindle all of Morganfield and Gary of Corydon. Services held Thur. June 3, at Whitsell Funeral Home in Morganfield with burial in the Boxville Cemetery in Union County. JAMES VERNON O'NAN - 78, Corydon, died Fri. June 4, 1999 at Methodist Hospital in Henderson. A member and elder of Corydon Christian Church, retired as Corydon Postmaster after 34 years. He was also a WWII veteran and a member of the Corydon Lions Club. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Dorothy; three daugthters, Judy McDonald of Owensboro, Jean Barnes and Nancy Love of Henderson; one son, Gary of Shelbyville; three sisters, Gladys Bassett of Evansville, Tressie Key of Henderson and Nancy Fedors of Louisville; three brothers, Sidney of Hopkinsville, Herschel of Morganfield and Bob of Shelbyville; 7 grandchildren; 3 gr. grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Besides their parents, surivors include their grandparents, Linda Taylor of Evansville; Robet A. Taylor of Newburgh, and Gary W. and Patricia Winstead of Dixon; great grandparents, Ray and Classo Duncan of Dixon, Lucille Winstead of Sebree and Mary E. Steckler of Morganfield. Services were Tues. June 15 at the Springdale Cemetery in Sebree. CECIL MCNARY CHIPPS - ;78 of Sturgis died Wed. June 9, 1999 at the Regional Medical Center in Madisonville. Survivors include his wife Ella; two daughters, Mildred White of Chicago, IL., and Moncia Barnhill of Lexington, KY; two sons, Cecil Chipps Jr of Evansville, and Marvin of Providence; faithful cousin Corene Lawrence, host of nieces and nephews and several grandchildren. Funeral services were held Mon. June 14, 1999 at Whitsell Funeral Home with burial in the Presbyterian Cemetery in Sturgis. He was a WWII Veteran and retired from the Earle C. Clements Job Corps Center. DR. JOHN P. WELBORN JR. - 75 of Morganfield died Mon. June 14, 1999 at the Baptist Hospital in Oxford, MS. Survivors include his wife Suzanne; one daughter Bethel Pritchett of Memphis, TN; one son, John Welborn of Seattle, WA; three grandchildren, one gr. grandchild, four step grandchildren and six step gr. grandchildren. Funeral arrangements are pending at Whitsell Funeral Home in Morganfield. Dr. Welborn was a graduate of the University of Mississippi and received his medical degree from the University of Tennessee.. He served his residency at the Bethesda Naval Hospital in Maryland and went on to complete thirteen of service in the Navy. Dr. Welborn came to Morganfield and started his medical practice in 1955. He retired from medicine in 1987. Two years later he bought International Tours, where he remained active in its operation. MARTHA PADGETT - 72 of Morganfield died on June 11, 1999 at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, IN., due to subdural hematoma. Survivors include her husband Harry ; one daughter, Karen Duckworth of Morganfield; one son, Bill Padgett of Morganfield; two grandchildren, Michael and Shane Duckworth, both of Morganfield and two gr. grandchildren. Funeral Services were Mon. June 14, 1999 at St. Ann Catholic Church in Morganfield with burial in St. Ann Cemetery. She was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church in Morganfield and was retired from the Union County Health Department. ERNEST "ERNIE" CARLISLE - 81 of Clay, died Friday June 11, 1999 at the Regional Medical Center in Madisonville. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Ruby; two sons, Phil of Clay and and Joel of Blackford; six grandchildren and eight gr. grandchildren. Funeral services were held Mond. June 14, 1999 at the Vanover Funeral Home with burial in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Clay. Ernie was a retired Coal Machinist from the Island Creek Coal Camp.. He was also a veteran of the US Navy and a member of the Jachin Lodge #739 for over 50 years. June 15, 1999 in Morganfield. Preceded in death by his wife Laverne in 1996. June 16 at University Hospital in Louisville from a battle with cancer. Survivors include his wife, Staci; parents, Darrell & Judy of Morganfield; two daughters, Kerrie and Kayla of Morganfield; one sister, Kim Adams and husband Mark of Morganfield; two brothers, Ricky and wife Karena, and Jody and wife Heather all of Morganfield, several nieces and nephews. He was a member of Grace Fellowship Church in Morganfield and was employed by Bill Gough Trucking. THEODIOUS BARNHILL JR. - 48 of Sturgis, died Mon. June 14 at the Methodist Hospital in Morganfield. Preceded in death by his father Theodious Barnhill Sr in 1994. Survived by his mother, Margaret Barnhill of Sturgis; one daughter, Rashonda Barnhill of Evansville, IN; one son, Tyronne of Evansivlle; three sisters, Mary Jane Ross of Atlanta, GA., Margaret Jeanette Barnhill of Morganfield, Joyce Mitchell of Sturgis; five brothers, Fred of Cleveland, OH.., Cordis, Leslie, Thomas, Sylvester all of Sturgis; aunt Ella Chipps; two grandchildren. June 21 at the Methodist Hospital in Henderson. Survived by his wife, Betty Lynn; one daughter, Brenda Nally of Uniontown; one son, Harold Lynn Jr. of Morganfield; one sister, Hattie Rich of Logansport, IN., one half sister, Bobbie Knight of Zion, KY; two brothers, Louis "Bluetick" of Morganfield, Miles of Greenville, KY; three grandsons, 2 gr. grandsons and 16 nieces and nephews. Funeral service held Thurs. June 24 at Whitsell Funeral Home in Morganfield with burial in the city cemetery in Uniontown. He was formerly employed at the Wabash Elevator. Mr. Lynn has been disabled since 1982. IRENE NIXON - 85 of Waverly, died Sat. June 19 at the Methodist Hospital in Union County. Preceded in death by her husband K. B. "Jabo" in 1994, two sons, John in 1986 and Roy in 1994, one brother, Henry Walker, two sisters Jean Dennis and Marie Rich. Survivors include two son, David & Mike of Waverly; 12 grandchildren and 12 gr. grandchildren. Funeral services were held Tues. June 22 at the St. Peters Catholic Church in Waverly with burial in St. Peter's Cemetery. She was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church. June 28, 1999 of heart failure at the Livingston County Hospital. She was a member of teh First Baptist Church in Clay. Surviving are her husband Alton; four daughters, Kathy Young of Henderson, Genia Rudolph of Salem, Phyllis Campbell and Candy Yates, both of Marion; two stepsons, Larry of Sullivan and David Belt of Okeechobee, FL; a brother, Billy Moore of Madisonville, and 8 grandchildren. Services were Thurs. July 1, 1999 at Gilbert Funeral Home with burial in Deer Creek Cemetery. MARY EDWARDS - 81, of Clay, died Sun. June 27, 1999 at the Morganfield Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Proceded in death by her son, Jack Patterson in 1982. She was a member of First Baptist Church. Surviving are a daughter, Peggy Nelson Durbin of Clay; three sisters, Bertha Holland and Fannie McAllister both of Morganfield, and Maudie Moran of Woodbridge, VA; four grandchildren, four step grandchildren ; seven gr. grandchildren; and 17 step gr. grandchildren. Services were Wed at the Vanover Funeral Home with burial in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Morganfield. CECIL E. "PETE" VANCLEAVE - 78 of Sturgis died Sat. June 26, 1999 at his residence. Survived by his wife of 59 years, F. Jane (Pugh) VanCleave; two daughters, Wanda Owen of Henderson, Mary Jane Evans of Sturgis; one son, John T. VanCleave of Sturgis; eight grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, two step great grandchildren. Funeral services were Mon. June 28, 1999 at the Whitsell Funeral Home in Sturgis with burial in Pythian Ridge Cemetery in Sturgis. He was a member of Grangertown Baptist Church. He was born in Union County on Sept. 9, 1920 to John A. VanCleave and Jenny (Collins) VanCleave. Mr. & Mrs. VanCleave were married June 23, 1943 at his hime on Monroe St in Sturgis by Brother George Maraman. WILLIAM M. TODD - 84, of Marion, died Fri. June 25, 1999 at his home. Surviving are his wife Ruth; one daughter Linda May of Lola, KY., one son, Keith Todd of Paducah; one sister, Ora Lee Tapp of Morganfield; four grandchildren, three step grandchildren, four step. gr. grandchildren. Funeral services were Sun. June 27, 1999 at the Gilbert Funeral Home. Burial was in IOOF Cemetery in Clay. Mr. Todd was a charter member and deacon of Emmanuel Baptist Church. He was a member of the retired Teachers Association, Soil Conversation Board, Retired Vocational Agricultural Teachers of America, Tax Volunteer, Masonic Lodge Bingham 256, and a Kentucky Colonel. He had a masters degree from the University of Kentucky and a Bachelors Degree from Murray Stage University. BESSIE DEE DEHAVEN - 92 of Sullivan, died Wed. June 23, 1999 at St. Tammany Parish Hospital in Covington, LA. Mrs. DeHaven was preceded in death by her husband, William Denver DeHaven. Survivors include one daughter, Joan Roach of Covington, LA; three grandchildren and one great grandchild. Funeral Services were Wed. June 30, 1999 at Whitsell Funeral Home in Sturgis with burial in Pythian Ridge Cemetery. Mrs. DeHaven was born in Sullivan on Feb. 24, 1907 to Ruben Eugene Whitecotten and Eva Belle Pierson. HARRY BOURLAND SIMPSON - 91, long time resident of Kensington, MD, formerly of Sturgis, died Tues, June 22, 1999 at Fairfax Hospital in Fairfax, VA. Mr. Simpson was a 1926 graduate of Sturgis High School and a graduate of Washington College of Law at American University in Washington DC in 1939. He was admitted to the Bar of the District Court of the United States for the District of Columbia and was admitted as an Attorney and Counselor of the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia in 1940. He was an attorney for the Interstate Commerce Commission and retired in 1971 after 35 years. Mr. Simpson was also a US Army veteran having served in the European Theater during WWII. Surviving are his wife Alive of Reston, VA; two daughters, Judy Adams of Nelly's Ford, VA and Hyatt Simpons of Fairfax; two sons, H. R. "Tuck" of Edgewood, CO., and Peter B. of Crestline, CA; one sister, Virginia S. Pope of Sturgis; three brothers, Judge Faust Y. Simpson and Sidney Simpson both of Morganfield, and Felix Simpson of Sturgis; six grandchildren and five gr. grandchildren. Services were held Fri. June 15, 1999 at Christ Episcopal Church in Kensington, MD CHARLES E. PIPER - 52 of Uniontown, died of an apparent heart attack Tues. June 29, 1999 at his residence. Preceded in death by his son, Tony in 1981 and parents, Mabel and Eligh Piper. Survived by one daughter, Michelle Woodruff of St. Charles, KY; one son, Eric of Henderson; one sister, Rita Higginson of Uniontown; five brothers, Perry "Pete" and Jerry of Morganfield, James and Jody of Uniontown and Jimmy of Poole, KY; three grandchildren. MCKENZIE LEIGH COMBS - infant daughter of Regina and Leon Combs Jr. of Greenville died Tues. June 29, 1999 at the Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, TN. Survivors include her paternal grandparents, Sharon and Leon Combs Sr of Sturgis; Paternal grandmother, Laura Combs of Greenville; Maternal Grandmother, Lottie Mae Davis of Cleaton, KY; Paternal gr grandmother, Ruth Robinson of Greenville; also surviving several uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces and cousins. Graveside services were held Mond. July 5, 1999 at the West End Cemetery in Greenville, Ky. CLAUDIA FRANCES ADAMS - 54 of Henderson died at her residence of cancer, Tues. June 29, 1999. A former hairdresser, she had also worked for Sportstime Screenprinting and Color Connection. Survivors include her husband of 33 years, Louie D. "Don" ; one daughter, Keri Adams of Henderson; two sisters, Barbara Benjamin of Stanford, IL., and Colleen James of Tell City, IN., and one brother, Ricky Hooper of Uniontown. Services were held Fri. July 2, 1999 at Benton-Glunt Funeral Home in Henderson with burial in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
