Will of James Armstrong, Union Co., KY 1821 probate 15 October 1821 In the name of God amen. That I James Armstrong of Union County Kentucky being weak in body but perfectly sound in mind and memory knowing the uncertainty of human life and feeling the necessity of disposing of my worldly affairs for the pleasure and benefit of my family after my death do make and ordain this my last will and testament in maner and form following viz; I leave and bequeath to my wife Mary Armstrong the plantation whereon I now live containing about fifty-eight acres of land during her natural life and at her death to be sold and the proceeds thereof to be equally devided amongst my ten children viz Jane Lowery wife of Issac Lowery, Benjamin Armstrong, Malinda Agnew wife of Wily Agnew, Ann Armstrong, Polley Armstrong, Becky Armstrong, Jas A Armstrong, David H. Armstrong, Mahala Armstrong, John J. Armstrong. To my son Benjamin Armstrong I leave and bequeath over and above an equal share with the rest of my children one sorrel filly called Silver, two pair of horse gears, one pair of double trees, two clevis's, one ox and small plow to be delivered to him when he may want the same; to each of my daughters that are yet single I leave and bequeath a bed and furniture to be delivered to them as they may severally marry or become of age, The balance of all my personal property together with the crop now on hand I leave and bequeath to my aforementioned wife during her natural life with request to sell; so much of the crop or live stock as she may deem sufficient for the payments of my just debts and apply the proceeds thereof to the payment of same, and should there be any of my personal property left from the support of the family or any obtained from the proceeds of the sale of the prent stock or increase or production of the farm at my wifes death, I desire it shall be sold and the proceeds of the same shall equally devided amongst my beforementioned ten children. I will and desire that my wife give each of my sons younger than Benjamin a horse least worth about forty or fifty dollars and a new saddle as her circumstances will admitt of the same and each of the unmarried daughters a new saddle if her circumstances will addmitt of the same to be given to them when they may severally marry or become of age. I will and desire that the mare called Bay, saddle and bridle now claimed by my son Benjamin still remain and be his forever and in order that this my last will and testament be carried into efect I do hereby constitute and appoint Aaron Shelby and Hugh W.
