Ruby. Parents of ---- Richard Harrison Ruby: = John Ruby ---- Born - 1811 or 1813 ---- D.1878; buried beside his first wife -- Lucy Ruby - B.Nov 4, 1820; D.Sept 23, 1846 age 2_ in a tiny family cemetery about a mile from Mackville on Willisburg Road ---- on farm known as the Deelwood Shewmaker Place. John Ruby's 2nd wife (and mother of Richard Harrison Ruby) = Permelia Gardiner - B.Dec 2, 1838; D. April 24, 1908, Age 70, buried in Evergreen Cemetery at Willisburg, Ky, Washington County Parents of John Ruby: Bill Ruby B. D. Eliza Burns B. D. Oct 17, 1968; -- Railroad Engineer, Farmer ^Buried Evergreen Cemetery, Willisburg 250 acres, School Board Member, hobby = fishing and camping; republican, Baptist. Married May 27, 192_ to Dorval Pinkston. Lived on Willisburg - Springfield Road. a. Birchell/Dorval = had one child = Allen Harrison Ruby --- B.March 8, 1930; D.--- Betty Jo Jackson, wife Allen Ruby; Airplane pilot, graduate of University of Ill. (streamline Course) in Alronsville(?) Allen and Betty Jo Ruby had two daughters: = 1. Deborah Ann Ruby - B. Sept 9, 1956/ ^(Married Aug. 26, 1975) Russell Wayne Bugg a. Their child and Birchell H. Rubys Great Grandchild.= Lisa Michelle Bugg --- B. May 26, 1980 2. Karen Dale Ruby --- B.Aug. 25, 1961 2. Marshall Hourton Ruby -- B Jan 9, 1904 D. March 23, 1975 Farmer of 50 acres, More or less a 'share" farm, with Man-Made lake, about 1 Mile out of Mackville oon Battle Road, Baptist, converted democrat, hobbies - fishing and telling funny tales on himself. Married twice. 1st: Ruby Kathryn Farris, from Maud, Ky - June 18, 1925; Divorced around 1930; They had onechild = Lavon Maxine ruby - B.March 31, 1956/ Married (first) to Elmer Jewell ^(1946) of Taylorsville, Ky; Elmer/Maxine had one child = Larry Dewayne Jewell - B.1947; Lavon Maxine Ruby divorced Elmer Jewell. And married: Jackson Lawson from Mumfordsville, Ky on March 2, ["1957" is lined through] ^1978: --- Lavon Maxine Ruby and Jackson Lawson had one child = Tina Michelle Lawson - B.Nov 7, 1963. 2nd wife of Marshall Houston Ruby ----= Grace Royalty Adkinson - Married Dec. 20, 1947, by Judge Chas. McCord DEATHS: CAUSES: Marshall Hourton Ruby - died March 23, 1975 ------ after having his left leg amputated -> Feb. 19, 1975, as result of hardening of artery. Birchell - died Oct 17, 1968 about 5:00 A.M., from heart attack; moved into his new brick-ranch type home the day before; worked too fast & too much in moving and sowing grass seeds over the new lawn. Jackson Lawson, 2nd husband of Lavon Maxine Ruby --- died March 7, 1978; after being married 21 years - date of marriage = March 2, 1957 - cause of his death = Heart Attack (fatal) while on duty as L&N Railroad Engineer, from Louisville to Springfield. He became ill, at a Bardstown Ky Restaurant, eating lunch with the train crew, was rushed to Flaget Hospital, Bardstown, where he passed away in very few minutes. His last words were --- "Tell Maxine that I love her." Richard Harrison (Dick) Ruby - D.June 28, 1934 - at his home. He went to bed in Oct. 1933 for bed rest due to lack of energy, No pain; The doctor, Reed Thompson, sent a sputum ["test" lined through] sample to Lab for test --- results, "Old fashion consumption. He lived only 3 more weeks. Sarah Frances (Fannie) Ruby - D.Dec 2, 1947; cause of death = gaul stones completely blocked the gaul-duct, allowing bile to go out ito all parts of her system, turning her body into an orange color, even the whites of her eyes. Continued from Page "2" Children of Richard Harrison Ruby 3. Zula Mae Ruby -- B.-Dec 18, 1905 D. Retired Home Economics school teacher with 42 years service, Member of Springfield Home Makers Club; Guiding Star Chapter # 450, Order of Eastern Star, Washington Co. Retired Teachers. Assoc; Genealogy Society; Baptist - Sun. Sch Teacher; republican; (No Children.) Married - Dec 18, 1940- to --- Clayton (None) Rowland - in am early morning 7:30 A.M. Church wedding, Ashland, Ky, 1st Baptist Church. Zula and Clayton bought the Richard Harrison Ruby Homeplace after her mother's death and lived on the farm 17 years. Moved to Springfield because Mackville School consolidated with county into Washington County High School - where Zula was to teach. Moved to their newly purchased home on Walnut St - 408 in 1967. And as of today Aug 1983, continued to live there. Zula and Clayton have no children. He was also a teacher of Commerce, with 44 years of teaching. Zula attended World's Fair in Chicago in 1933 and World's Fair in New York in 1939. 4. Thelma Frances Marie Ruby - B.July 21, 1914; D. Yes, all of this, is her Name.---- to satisfy 3 family Members; She was a premature baby, looked like a little old wrinkled woman when born; but was loved by entire family --- had a nice personality; beautiful singing voice - took voice lessons from Frances Schulz; also took piano - but preferred playing by ear; went to Western teachers College & Bowling Green Business University; worked as Sec. at Medical Depot, Louisville until she married - March 21, 1945 to: William O. Hopper, from Willisburg, Ky, Rural Mail Carrier. After Thelma's marriage, she was a Sub. School teacher; a school bus driver for 17 years. (continued to Page 5) Page 5 Thelma F.M. Ruby and William O. Hopper have one child: Sandra Kay Hopper - B. Jan 9, 1946/married Bruce Edward Welch in May 1963 Sandra Kay has a Masters degree from U. of Ky - taught school 3 years and then started working for Kentucky Educational Television, Lexington, Ky. Started at the bottom and is now up to deputy executive, only one more step to the top. She lives in Lexington, Ky. Sandra Kay and Bruce Welch have one child ----- Brant Edward Welch - B.Dec 24, 1970. Children of John Ruby/Permelia Gardiner 1. Richard Harrison Ruby - B.Jan 9, 1969 [sic]; D.June 28, 1934/Sarah Frances Warner 2. John Ruby/Susie Best -- M.Sept 28, 1877; reared a family in Bardstown, Ky and on to Meade County - Brandenburg, Ky. He was a horse doctor and horse trader; Buried Jeffersontown, Ky. Children = Mollie, Pearl, Loyd, Willis and 2 or 3 others. 3. William Allen (Dick) Ruby-/Sarah Moberly. M - July 15, 1886. A farmer; operated a grist Mill. Buried at Mackville in Richard H. Ruby cemetery Lot. Had no children. 4. Benjamin Franklin (Frank) Ruby / Pheobie Devine; M - Oct 28, 1889; farmer and part owner of a buggy factory in Harrodsburg. buried in Willisburg Cemetery on cemetery Lot With his mother Permelia Ruby and his wife Pheobie Devine (Pheobie does not have a gravestone) as yet. had 3 children = Willie Ann, Earl, and Dewey. 5. Cordellia Ruby / Davie Sims ---- buried in Mercer County, Grapevine Church Cemetery. They had no children. 6. Charlie Ruby (half brother to above children) his mother was Lucy Ruby. His wife = Flora Collins, Aug 24, 1889 --- I'm not sure about name of his wife or about his children. A girl - "Golden" Ruby, one of Charlie's children. he had a store in Frankfort, ky - where he reared his children. 7. RuAnn Ruby / John Brown, M.Aug 25, 1864, perhaps a half sister to Richard Harrison Ruby & the above in --- 1860 Washington County Census - she was listed in - John Ruby, age 49 (household) Permelia , " 22, wife Rhuann " 14 Charles " 3 William " 1 Children of Walter Eperson Gardiner / Angeline Rosselli From 1850 Washington County Census Gardiner, Walter Eperson Age 44 B. 1806 wife - Angeline " 37 1813 Hezekiah 19 1831 Nancy 16 1834 Angeline 13 1837 Permelia 11 1839 Richard 7 1843 Ben 6 1844 Amanda 4 1846 Serilda 2 1848 Matilda 2 1848 NOTE: Not born at time of census is: Eli 1 1850 Note --- From the writing on some very old photographs of Charles Ruby and Perry Ruby, Chaplin, Ky.
