This Indenture made this 27th day of October One Thousand Eight Hundred and twenty five Between an Edward Smith & Eleanor his wife Raphael Bowles & Rutha his wife Benedict Bowles & Harriet his wife of Washington County Ignatius Bowles & Catharine his wife of Nelson County Thomas French & Fanny his wife of Hardin County Benedict Davis & Ann his wife & James Woodward and Clair his wife of Union County [his?] and legal representation of Ignatius Bowls dec’d & all of the State of Kentucky of the one part and Samuel Greenwell of Union County & State of Kentucky of the other part Witnesseth that for and in condition of the sum of Five Hundred and Fifty nine dollars lawful money of Ky to us Edward Smith & Eleanor his wife Raphael Bowles & Ruthie his wife Benedict Bowles & Harriet his wife Ignatius Bowles & Catharine his wife Thomas French & Fanny his wife Benedict Davis & Ann his wife & James Woodward and Clair his wife, in hand. Page 11 The receipt whereof we do hereby acknowledge have granted, Bargained and sold and do by these presents grant, Bargain, sell, alien, release, convey and Confirm unto the said Samuel Greenwell 3 certain tracts or parcels of land lying and being in the County of Nelson and State of Kentucky all of which our father H Ign. s Bowls dec’d purchased of George Calhoon & wife containing by survey 42 acres be it more or less and bounded as follows upon the left South fork of Gilkey’s run of the Beech fork adjoining the plantation of Ignatius Cicills. Beginning at a white oak corner to Jn. o Quicks 300 [acre? ?my] thence N 40° E 114 po to a post a corner to Ign.s Cicills corner on the South Hill side thence down the hill across the run with a row of posts on the hill side running Southly 149 poles to a post & Mulberry joining to Jn.o Quicks thence N 65 W 122 with the said line to the Beginning. Another of which tracts our father H Ign.s Bowls dec’d purch.d of Jn.o Quick & wife containing 100 acres more or less lying on Gilkeys run of the Beech fork & bounded as follows (towit) Beginning at Cicills N E Corner at a honey locust running N 65 W 180 poles crossing s.d Bowls fence and Spring Branch & coming on the West side of his fence at a sugar tree, dogwood and white oak & Stone thence S 20° W 20 p.o to a Stake thence S 20° E 20 p.o to a black oak then 91 poles to a large Spanish oak thence S 65° E 76 p.o to a white oak on the head of a [drum?] on Cicills line thence with his line to the Beginning. The other of which tracts of land our father Ign.s Bowles dec’d Bought of Jn.o Quick & wife lying in Nelson County on Gilkeys run of the Beech fork & Bounded as follows (towit) Beginning containing 35 acres Beginning at a Stone Boundary a corner to said Boles home plantation and running thence South 76° W 9 p.o to a large white oak S 4° E 28 poles then S 5° W 18 poles S 10° E 74 poles S 11 E 14 S 8 W 24 p.o S 6 W 18 poles S 15 W 19 poles to a white oak standing in Jn.o Duncans line S 65° E 98 to a Buckeye standing in a deep Hollow thence N 25 E 38 poles to an Elm standing near the head of a [steep Bunch of rocks?] and corner of Ign.s Boles [holem?] Plantation and running thence with the line of said Plantation N 66° W 76 p.o to a large Spanish oak another corner of [Holem?] plantationrunning thence N 20° W 98 poles to a bound post thence due north 66 poles to the Beginning Within the appurtenances. To have and to hold the said Bargained and sold premises and appurtenances to the only proper use & benefit of him the said Samuel Greenwell his heirs and assigns forever and they the said Edw.d Smith & Eleanor his wife Raph.l Bowles & Rutha his wife Benedict Bowles & Harriet his wife Ignatius Bowls & Catharine his wife Thomas French & Fanny his wife Benedict Davis & Ann his wife & James Woodward and Clair his wife do covenant with the said Samuel Greenwell his heirs &C they will for themselves their heirs & forever warrant and defend the said tracts or parcels of land against the claim or claims of all and every person or persons whatsoever in Testimony whereof we Edw.d Smith & Eleanor his wife Raphael Bowls & Rutha his wife Bened.t Bowls & Harriet his wife Ignatius Bowls & Catharine his wife Tho.s French & Fanny his wife Benedict Daviss & Ann his wife & James Woodward and Clair his wife have hearunto set our hands and affixed our seals this date and year above written. Smith and Eleanor his wife Raphael Bowles and Ruthe his wife Benedict Boles and Harriet his wife parties to the annexed indenture of bargain & Sale and acknowledged the same to be their Several act and deed for the purpose therein mentioned and the said Eleanor Smith Ruthe Bolds and Harriet Bolds being examined by me separate and apart from their husbands as the law directsand the said indenture being read and explained to them they relinquished all their right title and Estate whether vested in reversion in remainder or of Dower of in & to the lands thereby Conveyed declaring that they made the said relinquishment freely and voluntarily of their own free will and accord without the threat persuasions or Coercions of either of their husbands and that they nor either of them had any wish to retract this declaration which is certified to the proper office for record.
