OWENS was born in Wayne County, Ky., September 13, 1820, the fourth of twelve children born to Andrew and Sarah (Brown) Owens. He is a native of Kentucky, and she was the daughter of a Revolutionary soldier, who was at the battle of Yorktown and the surrender of Cornwallis; they came to Indiana in 1820, settling in Lawrence County, where they died, he June 16, 1840, and she November 3, 1881.
