Answer-he did 20th Question by same-Was or was not Conn almost always absent from the well and was or was not this the reason why he was obliged to keep a manager to buy & carry in provisions for his hands and to sell his Smith work goods _?_ (? Etc.?) and to collect his debts- Answer-He was but little at the well and had to have some person to buy and bring in provisions & collect his debts 21st Question by same-Had or had not Conn to buy his provisions out of the settlement fourteen or fifteen miles from the well Answer-he had- 22 Question by same-Did or did not Conn spend nearly all his time running or riding over the country hunting salt prospects Iron Oar _?_(?etc.?) and did he not spend agrandale (sp.? a great deal?) of money in this way unnecessarily - Answer- He did 23rd-Question by same-How long was the auger when I sold out to Beaty and how much of it was Iron- Answer-The auger was about 200 feet long and there was about one hundred & thirty feet of that Iron 24th Question by same-When my hands were absent from the well and wanted to leave (inserted: home &) did or did not Conn or those who managed for him give them leave? Answer-He did 25-Question by same-Was or was not Conns hands as often absent as mine- Answer-they were- 26th Question by same-Did I or did I not keep up a full third of the hands necessary to carry on the work at the well? Answer- You did 27th Question by same-Was or was not John Parmly imployed by Conn to pack out provisions for his hands and to collect his debts Answer-He was 28th Question by same- Was or was not the debts that Parmly to collect created by the sell of goods and Iron tools that Conn had made out of the Iron he brought to the well Answer-They were, for W. Parmly packed or carried plow Irons and sundry other work which Conn had done in the Shop to Town for Sell- 29-Question by same-How long was W. Parmly at the well managing for Conn whilst him & I was boring together? Answer-About eight or nine months I think 30 Question by same- Was or was not the Axes, Hoes, Pot Racks plough Iron, Chains, Screw Auger, Chisels _?_ (? Etc.?) which Conn sold at the well made out of the Iron he brought there? Answer- They were 31st Question by same- Did or did not Conn exchange the Iron work that he had made att the well for provisions for his hands and for skins which he packed to Jacksborough and Abingdon & sold for his private bebefit Answer- He did send off skins to Abingdon and Jacksborough several times and pay the people that he had hunting to kill provision for his hands out of the Iron work- 32-Question by same -How many persons had he hunting for him- Answer-He had Blevins, Waters, Slavey, Mounce, Vawn, Borkout (sp.? Burkart?), Chitwood, & three of the Hatfields all of whom he paid out of the Iron & good that he brought to the well. 33-Question by same -Was or was not the Saltwater got in the well before I sdold out to Beaty Answer-We was in Salt Substance but got no salt water until after you sold out to Beaty 34th Question by same-Did I did I not furninsh my own hands and provisions? Answer-You did 35th Question by same-Did or did not my hands and Conn's Eat and Sleep seperatly from each other Answer-They did and cooked their Victuals seperately 36 Question by same-Did I or did I not furnish a full third part of the expenses of carrying on the borning of the auger hole and Smith work- Answer-You did.
