Kegley, 1997. S30952. August 26, 1833, Wayne County, Kentucky, Patrick Coyle of said county, aged 70, stated that he entered the service in Washington County, Virginia, in October 1780 under Captain Lewis and Lieutenant James Hawkins. He volunteered to serve against the Indians and Marched to Dumps Creek and from there to New Garden Settlement, and went to various places west of the Greenbrier and was in two skirmishes with the Indians not far from Sandy River. He finally returned home in December, having served precisely 12 months. He was discharged by Captain Lewis about 20 miles from where he first started from. (Was born before Bef. August 26, 1763 in the Western Part of Virginia, and died February 21, 1845 in Wayne County, Kentucky. Abstracts of Rev. Patrick COYLE of Wayne County, Kentucky, in the Company of Captain Lewis in the Virginia Line one year was place on the Kentucky pension roll at $40 per annum under the Act of 1832.
