He was born in Wayne County, Kentucky on September 8, 1908, the son of Albert and Lula Bell Phipps. Both parents preceded him in death. He married Shirley Dolen, who survives. He is also survived by one child Roger Phipps of Merrillville, Indiana; one brother Hobert Phipps of Monticello, Kentucky. Preceding him in death is one brother Gorman Phipps; and two sisters Nellie Huckaby and Flora Rogers. He was a retired industry worker. Funeral services were held Monday, February 9, 1998 at 10 A.M. in the funeral home chapel with Brother Coy Webb and Brother L. C. Meadows officiating. Burial was in the Elk Spring Cemetery, Monticello, Wayne County, Kentucky. Marvin S. Hicks Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
