Obituary for Mary Ellen Mullens Southwood, published in a Lawrence County, IL 
newspaper on December 7, 1927
Bridgeport, Illinois

Mrs. Ellen Southwood, who has been a resident of this city for the past twenty 
years, died at the home of her son, T.N. (Thomas Nelson) Southwood, Tuesday 
evening.  Her age at death was seventy-nine years, eight months, and seven 
days.  She was the daughter of the late William and Frances Emily Allen 
Mullens, born March 29, 1848 in Wanyne County, Kentucky.
Mrs. Southwood had been ill for a long time, and her death was not 
unexpected.  Her husband died about thirty-five years ago while the family was 
living in Missouri.  She leaves one daughter, Mrs. Margie Irwin of Somerset, 
KY, and three sons, T.N. (Thomas Nelson) of Bridgeport, J.E. (John Edward) of 
Panhandle, Texas, and W.G.(William Gainford) of Bakersfield, California.  One 
son and one daughter have preceded her with the husband in death.
The funeral will be held at the home of her son, at 10:30 o'clock, Thursday 
morning, and interment will be made in the Shiloh Cemetery.
