Benny Whitehead, 74, died October 7th at his home at Hill Top following a prolonged illness. Rev. Whitehead, a retired coal miner, was born in Wayne County but moved to McCreary County as a young man and had lived here most of his life. He had been an ordained minister in the Baptist Church for fifty-one years and served as a magistrate from the Seventh District from 1950 through 1953. He was a member of the White Oak Junction Baptist Church. Rev. Whitehead is survived by his wife, Jane Whitehead, five daughters, Mrs. Ethel Phillips, Somerset, Mrs. Alice Gibson, Muncie, Ind., Mrs. Zona Gregory, also of Muncie; Mrs. Louisa Rogers, Dunnville, Ky.; Mrs. Stella Morrow, Hill Top; four sons, Elmer W. and Eugene Whitehead, Muncie; Robert Whitehead, Cooperative, and Coy Whitehead, Hill Top; two brothers, James (Jeemer) Whitehead, Stearns, and Will Whitehead, Somerset, and four sisters, Mrs. Polly Phillips, Gregory, Ky., Mrs. Martha Wilson, Gregory, Mrs. Anna Branslow, Monticello, and Mrs. Louverna Hall, Bronston. Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon from the White Oak Baptist Church with Rev. Melvin Bowman and Rev. Earl Davis in charge. Burial was in the Cooper Cemetery at Hill Top.
