You can contact Charles at: http://www.genrecords.net/emailregistry/vols/00002.html#0000366 [Francis Marion Rice (1836-1861) was the youngest son of Edward Rice (1798-1878, buried at Lisman; son of James and Rachel Rice of Bertie Co., NC) and Macy Nichols Rice (1810-1876, buried at Lisman; daughter of Noah and Sarah Nichols, originally from Bertie Co., NC). Francis ("Frank") Rice enlisted with his brothers Kearney Goodwin Rice (b. 1830) and James Monroe Rice (1829-1876) in Capt. James K. Kuey's Company of Confederate Cavalry (later Co. K, 1st KY Cav., CSA) at Bowling Green on Nov. 1, 1861. He died apparently of disease on Dec. 2, 1861, just short of his 25th birthday, leaving a wife and infant son. He is buried in Lisman. James M. D. Rice is a puzzlement. He appears living with Edward Rice in the 1860 census, but he was not one of Edward's son. Perhaps he was a nephew. I don't find him in 1870. "Shilo" is Shiloh, the old name for Lisman. The community got its name from the old Shiloh Cumberland Presbyterian Church, built on land given by Edward Rice for the token sum of $5. Shiloh became Lisman when the post office was begun there. There are Shilohs all over the country, so the people were told to choose a name. The first choice supposedly was Rice, but there already was a Rice or Riceland post office in Kentucky. Told to pick another, they decided on Lisman after the name of the first post master. My great uncle, Guy Whit Rice, was the last post master when the post office was closed over 30 years ago. Lisman once was a thriving little community. Now there's nothing much left but the church and a few homes.] ====================================================================== ===== Copyright.
