BROWN DIES IN CRASH G. B. Brown, 27, of Providence, was killed at 6 O'Clock Saturday morning in a traffic accident near Erie, Mich, in which two other men lost their lives. He was driving a commercial carrier loaded with automobiles which collided with the truck in which the other men were riding. Both vehicles burst into flames and the three men were burned beyond recognition. Mr Brown was a Navy veteran of World War II and was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars. Survivors are the wife, the former Miss Dorothy Lee Maraman; four sons, Jerry Norman, Larry Douglas, Barry Lee, and George Michael; parents, Mrs. Grace Brown and W. L. Brown; one sister, Mrs W. H. Villines, Jr.; and three brothers, Thomas L., Dallas, and Alton Brown, all of Providence. The body was brought to Melton Funeral Home and funeral services were held there at 1 pm Tuesday, with the Rev. Charlie Howard of Clay officiating. Members of Jack McDowell Post Veterans of Foreign Wars were pallbearers. Burial was in Big Hill cemetery. ELEVEN YOUTHS REGISTER AT DIXON DURING JANUARY Eleven 18-year-old-men registered with the Webster County Selective Service Board at Dixon during January as follows: Herbert Hoover Springfield, Sebree; Albert Wendell Hill, Providence; George E. Harmon, Dixon; James Robert Cobb, Dixon; Charles Bertis Buchanan, Sebree; Billy Ray Hanor, Clay; Ashby Lee Jobe, Slaughters; James William Holeman, Dixon; George Lee Stephens, Providence; Orland Benjamin Travis, Providence; and Charles Henry Nall, Clay. DAUGHTER OF PROVIDENCE PEOPLE IN MOVIES Marian Carr, who is making quite a name for herself in movies, is a daughter of former Providence people and has a number of relatives here. Miss Carr's mother, Mrs. F. J. Carr, Chicago, is the former Miss Lenedra Boyle, who was reared here and whose father, T.M. Boyle, is still a Providence resident. The girl's father, the late Cliff Dunn, was also from Providence. She assumed her stepfather's name after her mother's marriage to Mr. Carr following Mr. Dunn's death. Before going into movies, Marian worked as a model in Chicago and did stage performances. Ten months ago she signed a contract with RKO. She has completed two romantic leads opposite Laurence Tierney in "San Quentin" and "The Devil Thumbs a Ride." Next she will do a play on Brodway, "Shelia" by Robert St. Clair. Miss Carr is 5 feet, 6 1/2 inches tall, weighs 120 pounds, and is a natural blonde. Randy Cates Vilines of Dixon spent the week-end with his grandparents, Mr and Mrs L. C. Vilines. MOVE TO DIXON Deputy Sheriff Carmon Pullam and Mrs Pullam have moved from Clay to Dixon and have taken rooms in the home of Mrs Bill Knight. LINDA SUZANNE POWELL The daughter born Jan 29 in Henderson Hospital to Mr and Mrs George H. Powell has been named Linda Suzanne. Mrs Powell is expected to return home from the hospital Saturday, but her baby, who is in an incubator, will remain there for a month. CELEBRATES 90th BIRTHDAY Mr and Mrs Luther Sigler entertained with a family dinner at their home near Henderson Sunday honoring the birthday of Jim Sigler who was 90 years old. Mr and Mrs Clay Villines, near Dixon attended. Mrs Villines is the daughter of Mr Sigler. Mrs. George Ewell Winstead of Chicago arrived Sunday night to spend a month with her mother, Mrs Minnie Herron, and other relatives. Coolidge Melton, student at the University of Kentucky, Lexington, spent the week-end with his parents, Mr and Mrs D. M. Melton. Mr and Mrs Marion Denu of Richmond, Ind., are visiting her mother, Mrs. Minnie Herron. Mrs Hubert Conard and son of Clay spent Monday with her parents, Mr and Mrs Sam Fuquay. Miss Carolyn Smith of Oblong, Ill. was a week-end visitor with her mother, Mrs Lillian Smith. Mrs. Bud Ramsey is visiting in Clay with her daughter, Mrs. R. D. Holt and Mr Holt. Mrs. Joy Lou Aldridge of Evansville arrived Monday to spend a month's vacation with her parents, Mr and Mrs Ira Aldridge, and daughters. Mr and Mrs Carmon Asher received a letter from their son, Billy Wayne, who is stationed at Quantico, Va., saying he had been promoted to PM3c. Mr and Mrs Clyde Lewis and daughter spent the week-end in Wheatcroft with her parents, Mr and Mrs W. L. Devine. T-Sgt. Mrs. Luther Fraser of St. Albans, W. Va., is visiting her sister, Mrs Vert C. Fraser, and Mr. Fraser. Mrs Finnie Boyd of Evansville spent Monday with her daughter, Mrs. A. D. Cardwell at Diamond. RAYMOND LESLIE MAY A son was born Jan 28 to Mr and Mrs Lawrence May. He weighed nine pounds and has been named Raymond Leslie. BALL - RINGO "abstracted" Mr and Mrs Sam Ball announce the marriage of their daughter, Jeanne to C. L. Ringo, Jr., son of Mr and Mrs C. L. Ringo, Sr. of Blackford. The wedding was solemnized at 7 p.m. Friday Jan. 24 in the First Baptist church. GIBSON - ROBERSON "abstracted" Miss Virginia Gibson, daughter of Mr and Mrs Orval Gibson, Corinth section, and Melvin R. Roberson, son of Mr and Mrs Ellis Roberson, of Beech Creek, were married at 12:30 P.M. Sunday January 26. Mr and Mrs Max Duncan Reed are parents of a daughter born Jan 29 in Hopkins County Hospital in Madisonville. She weighed six pounds, ten ounces, and has been named Laura Maxine. Mrs Reed is the former Miss Conway McCullin, daughter of Mr and Mrs Roy McMullin. CHURCH HONORS OAKLEY ON BIRTHDAY "abstracted" E.J. Oakley was honored Sunday with a pot luck dinner for his seventy- seventh birthday. The occasion also was the fourteenth wedding anniversary of the pastor, the Rev. C. W. Duffer and Mrs. Duffer. THOMAS OTHER REYNOLDS Mr and Mrs Andrew Reynolds, Beulah section, are parents of a son born Jan. 19. He weighed seven pounds, and has been named Thomas Other. A son, weighing eight pounds, was born Jan. 2 to Mr and Mrs Ruby Carner. He has been named Ruby H. Carner. GOLDEN WEDDING ANNIVERSARY "abstracted" Mr and Mrs F. A. Casner observed their fiftieth wedding anniversary Sunday with a dinner in Morgan Hotel which was attended by their four children and members of their families. Mr. and Mrs. Casner were married on Feb. 3, 1897, in the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John G. Asher, in Shady Grove. That evening the couple went to the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John F. Casner, near Shady Grove, where a dinner was served for relatives and friends. Mr. and Mrs. Casner made their home on a farm until they moved to Providence nearly forty years ago and built the home which they now occupy. Mr Casner was born Jan. 29, 1875, and Mrs Casner on May 21, 1880. CHURCH SUPPER HONORS MR. AND MRS. TRADER "abstracted" Mr. and Mrs. Harold Trader, who were married recently were guests of honor at a supper at the Methodist Church last Wednesday. Mrs. Trader is the former Miss Elizabeth Turner, daughter of Dr. Bedford Turner, Henderson, district superintendent of the Methodist church and Mrs. Turner. Mr. Trader's parents are Mr. and Mrs. J.C. Trader. RICHARD EARL GROVES A son, Richard Earl, was born Feb. 3 to Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Groves. Weight was eight pounds. STEPHEN HUGH JOHNSTON Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Johnston, Providence route 3, are parents of a son born Jan. 31 and weighing eight pounds. Luck last week-end and attended the tournament at Slaughters. BLACKFORD NEWS Mrs Bob Ruoff of Indianapolis, Ind. arrived Tuesday to spend a week with her mother, Mrs Alcy Johnson. Mr. Ruoff will spend the week-end here. Mrs Ernest Martin of Detroit is visiting her mother, Mrs. Betty Litchfield this week. Mrs C. V. Heady and Mrs John Litchfield and the Rev. J. R. King attended the funeral of Clarence Berry Thursday at Rosebud Church. POOLE NEWS Mrs Bertha Melton spent last week with her daughter, Mrs Howard Marks, of Providence. Mrs. Lola Towe of Cape Girardeau, Mo., has been visiting her mother, Mrs Florence Crowley for the past several days. Jean Tober left Friday for an extended visit with his father, J. L. Tober of Medora, Ill, and his sister, Mrs Joe Slinka, of Mt Vernon, Ill. Mr and Mrs Raymond Tapp and baby left Monday for Indianapolis to make their home. Robert Higginson, Jr., arrived Tuesday from Florida.
