Survivors in addition to her parents, are a brother, J. R. Cowan who is serving with the armed forces in Japan; three sisters, Mrs. Ruth Collins and Misses Billy Doris and Patsy Carroll, at home. Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Monday at the Union church with the Rev. Charles Rutherford of Clay officiating. Burial was in the I.O.O.F. cemetery in Clay. Jesse K. Whitledge Dies Sunday in Clay Jesse Kenneth Whitledge, 62, Clay, died suddenly Sunday at 11:40 a.m. while visiting at the home of a son, Lloyd Whitledge in the White Oak section. Mr Whitledge had been in ill health for some time but was able to be up and out. He was converted and joined the Little Zion church at the age of eighteen. He was married to Miss Ida Kelly on Feb. 21, 1903. Survivors are the wife, Mrs Ida Kelly Whitledge; three daughters, Mrs Alma Webb of Harrisburg; Mrs Alec Whelan of Clay, and Mrs Gerald McGill of Wheatcroft; eight sons, Raymond, Thomas, Loyce and Wayne, Clay; Lloyd of the White Oak section, Verris and Virgil of Evansville, and Victor of Boxville; three brothers, W. T. of Clay, Jim of Dixon and Verder of Cairo; three sisters, Mrs E. M. Overby of Cairo, Mrs T. J. Adams of Clay and Mrs Nealie DeFrance of Owosso, Mich; 18 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday in the General Baptist church in Clay with the Rev. E. G. Sisk of Diamond and the Rev. L. O. Nichols of Livermore officiating. Burial was in the I.O.O.F cemetery, Clay. Mrs. Melissa Loving Dies in Sturgis Mrs. Melissa Loving, 78, a former resident of Providence, died Monday morning at 11 O'clock at the home of her sister, Mrs Ben Dyer in Sturgis. She was an aunt of Mrs C. J. Miedreich and Ken Williams, both of Providence. Other survivors include a son, Hanson Loving of Detroit and a brother, Amos B. Williams of Nashville. A short funeral services was held at the home in Sturgis Tuesday and the body was shipped to Detroit where she will be buried. B.C. Milford, 73, Dies in Vandersburg B. C. Milford, 73, died at his home in Vandersburg at 7 p.m. Tuesday. Survivors include the wife, Julia; two sons, Roy of Dixon and Charlie of Evansville; a daughter, Mrs Bessie Morgan of Dixon; a sister Mrs Martha Nichols of Evansville; 4 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Funeral services are to be held this morning at 10 O'clock at the home with the Rev. Eurie Mitchell officiating. Burial will be in Fernwood cemetery, Henderson. Ray Hunt Killed in Accident in California Ray Hunt, 43, former Providence resident, was killed in Los Angeles, Calif., on Feb 5 when a 1500 pound slab of marble fell from a crane and hit him. Mr Hunt was supervising the unloading of the marble at the Musto- Keenan & Co., when the accident occurred. Surviving are his wife, Mildred, Los Angeles, Calif.; two daughters, Mrs Margaret Gibbons and Mrs Betty Davenport, Detroit; a son, Martin, Detroit; his parents, Mr and Mrs Sam Hunt, Los Angeles; six sisters and two brothers. Funeral services were held at the funeral home in Los Angeles on Saturday Feb 8, with the Rev Emmett Parks officiating. Burial was in the Forest Lawn cemetery, Glendale, Calif. Former Providence Man Dies in Detroit G. H. Vincent, 77, former Providence resident died at 9:45 p.m. Thursday at his home in Detroit. The body was brought to Tapp Funeral Home in Providence Saturday and funeral services wee held at the funeral home at 1 p.m. Sunday with the Rev. C. W. Duffer officiating. Survivors are three daughters, Mrs Roscoe Dye, Tekoncha, Mich.; Mrs Oma Eddings and Mrs Omer Nichols of Detroit; and a son, Bedford Vincent, of Providence. Burial was in Tash cemetery in Crittenden county. Mother of Clay Editor Dies Monday Night Mrs Ida Roseana Devney, 85, died at 10:30 p.m. Monday at the home of her son, T. L. Stanton, editor of the Clay Tribune, following an illness of fifteen months. Survivors besides the son are a daughter, Mrs Florence Jones of Oklahoma City, Okla., 7 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Funeral services were held Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. at the Franklin Funeral Home in Clay with the Rev M. E. Miller and the Rev. R. T. Mitchell officiating. Burial was in the Sturgis cemetery. Frank F. Coleman Dies in Clay Frank F. Coleman, 72, died at 3:30 p.m. Monday at the home of his son, Joe Coleman in Clay, following an illness of a few days. Survivors besides the son are several grandchildren some great grandchildren and one sister, Mrs Areia Cobb of Hickman, KY. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 2 O'clock at the home by the Rev. C. H. Howard, pastor of the General Baptist Church. Burial was in the I.O.O.F. cemetery. Sister of Providence Man Seriously Injured. Mrs Paul W. Johnson, Evansville, sister of R. W. Baker of Providence, was seriously injured in an automobile-truck collision last Thursday near Schneider in northern Indiana. Her husband was killed in the wreck. Mrs Johnson is in Mercy Hospital, Gary, Ind., with head injuries and fractured arm. Mr and Mrs Johnson were enroute to Chicago when the accident occured. Last Rites Held for Gilbert Crabtree Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at 3 O'clock at Old Salem church, Slaughters, for Gilbert Crabtree, 51, who died as a result of an injury from a fall in Waynesville, Mo. He is survived by his wife, Lana, and two aunts, Miss Ella Crabtree and Mrs Fanny Conley of Ft. Leonard Wood, Mo., and two uncles, Houston and Tom Rickard, near Slaughters. Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. L. F. Piercey. Military rites were conducted at the Old Salem church cemetery by American Legion Post 40,Henderson, Mr. Crabtree was a Veteran of World War 1. She has been named Linda Dian. Mr and Mrs I. C. Jenkins of the county announce the birth of a daughter on Thursday, Feb. 13. A Miscellaneous shower was given Tuesday afternoon, Feb. 11, at the home of Mrs Roland Conrad for Mrs Horace Blackwell, Jr., a recent bride. Frank Nall, Jr., of Detroit is visiting his grandparents, Mr and Mrs Joe Nall. Mrs D. A. Ledbetter and her visitor, Miss Grace Price of Washington, D.C., spent Wednesday night with Mr and Mrs Roy Chandler near Poole. Miss Grace Price will return this week to her home in Washington, D.C., after visiting Mrs Richen Price, Mr and Mrs Richen H. Price and other relatives here. Will Thomas Delton of Sturgis spent the week-end with his grandmother, Mrs Lucy Eddings. Discharged Cpt. Malcolm M. Edens, husband of Mrs Wilma Edens and son of Mr and Mrs J. B. Edens, received his discharge from the army at Greenville, S.C., and returned home last week. He had been stationed for some time at Sumter, S.C. He entered service April 27, 1943. He spent 18 months in Africa. Birthday Celebrated A dinner was enjoyed Sunday at the home of Mr and Mrs V. L. Johnson. The occasion was in celebration of their granddaughter, Carmon Ann Willoughby's first birthday. Others present were her parents, Mr and Mrs Sterling Willoughby of Bowling Green, Mr and Mrs James M. Johnson of Owensboro and Mr and Mrs Vernon L. Johnson of Nashville. Mrs J. E. Hammock, Mrs Ed Bumpus, Mrs T. R. Powell, Mrs Ollie Hearin, Mrs C. M. Pride and Miss Betty Bumpus were the ones from here who attended the celebration of the fiftieth wedding anniversary of Mr and Mrs Joe Waggener near Blackford Sunday. WHEATCROFT Birthdays Celebrated Mrs Arthur Daugherty gave a surprise birthday dinner Sunday for the forty- seventh birthday of her husband. Also the dinner celebrated the birthdays of Fred Hill, Thurman Tapp of Henderson and Mrs Verlia Grigg of Clay. Those attending the dinner were; Mr and Mrs Chester Daugherty, Mr and Mrs Thurman Tapp and son, Ann Crawford Hill, Mrs Verlia Grigg, Mr and Mrs Carl Stewart and Miss Natallia Killough. Mr and Mrs Charlie Threlkeld and Gary Threlkeld visited Mr Threlkeld's mother, Mrs M. A. Duvall in Providence Sunday. Mrs Duvall's condition is unimproved. Mrs Boyd Southerland and children of Detroit arrived Sunday for a visit with her mother, Mrs Martha Drennan. Mrs Atley Barnhardt and son of Detroit are visiting her mother, Mrs Nellie Martin and family. Mrs Arnold Brown spent the week-in in Sturgis with her parents, Mr and Mrs Mitchell Mills. Miss Joan Vaughn of Clay spent the week-end with her grandmother, Mrs Annie O'Bryant. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Waggener Celebrate Golden Wedding Anniversary. "abstracted" Mr and Mrs Joe Waggener, near Blackford, celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary Sunday, Feb. 16. They were hosts to over a hundred of their friends and relatives during the afternoon. Mr and Mrs Waggener were married fifty years ago by the Rev. Caldwell at Morganfield. Mrs Waggener is the daughter of the late Dr. Houston Black and Mrs Black. Dr. Black was a pioneer teacher for forty years. Mr Waggener is the son of the late Taylor Waggener and Mrs Waggener of Dixon. They have two children, Mrs Verna Brown of Blackford and V. G. Waggener of Dixon. They also have four grandchildren, Curtis Glen Brown of Blackford, Joe Bob and Tom Waggener of Dixon. LISMAN NEWS Birthday Dinner Mr and Mrs Thomas Cole and daughter, Anna Lou, had as dinner guests Saturday Mr and Mrs W. H. Richards of Henderson, Mrs Olive Jones and daughter, Ovalene, honoring the birthdays of Mrs Cole and Mrs Richards. James Henry Wallace has accepted a position in Owensboro with the Griffith Electric Company in the refrigeration department. Mr and Mrs Wallace will make their home in Owensboro. Mr and Mrs Noah Smith and Mrs E.G.Baker attended the funeral of Mr Smith's brother Porter Smith, in Clay Thursday afternoon. Cpl. Malcolm Edens, who has been stationed at Sumter, S.C. for the past year, was given his discharge from the army and returned to his home here last week. Mrs Arthur Akins spent Saturday in Dixon with her daughter, Mrs Ernie Edens, Mr Edens and daughter, Judy. Calvin C. Vilines and son, Randy, of Dixon were here Sunday afternoon. Henry Pritchett of Bowling Green spent the week-end with Mr and Mrs J. B. Pritchett and daughter, Paddy. MORE CLAY NEWS Mr and Mrs Malcolm Edens and son, Michael, spent a few days last week in Clay with Mr and Mrs J. B. Edens and daughter. Mrs R. C. Edwards and son, Bobby, were dinner guests Thursday of Mr and Mrs Charlie Edwards. Mr and Mrs Alvin Herron and son, Charles of Corydon spent Saturday with Mrs Herron's mother, Mrs Mary Pemberton. LYNN-MOONEY "abstracted" At a ceremony in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Lynn, near Providence, Friday evening, Feb. 14 at 6:30 in the presence of the immediate families and invited guests, Miss Bettye Lynn became the bride of John Mooney, son of Mr. and Mrs. Acre Mooney of Dixon. The bride was given in marriage by her father and had as her only attendant her aunt, Mrs. U.S. Grant of Evansville; U.S. Grant served as best man. Mrs. Mooney is a member of the senior class of the Dixon High School. Mr. Mooney is a graduate of the Dixon High School and is now employed at the Dixie Bee Garage in Dixon. Mrs. Elmer Young of Louisville spent Sunday with her sister, Mrs. Guy Ramsey. Mr. and Mrs. J.B. Gibson of Terre Haute, Ind., spent the week-end with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wes Bumpus. Daves, son of Mr and Mrs J. C. Daves of Providence. The marriage was solemnized at 2:30 p.m.Thursday, February 6, with the Rev. J. J. Jenkins pastor of the Baptist Church, officiating in his home in Hopkinsville. Attendants were Mrs Will E. Wade, sister-in-law of the bride, Will E. Wade, brother of the bride, and John Paul Wagner of Hopkinsville. A son was born to Mr and Mrs Alvin Dennis Sunday. Weight, seven pounds. REED-HOLLOMAN "abstracted" Mr and Mrs Earl Reed, of 1610 Military Avenue, Detroit, Mich., announce the marriage of their daughter, Shirley Jean, to Reginald DuRex Holloman, formerly of Providence. The ceremony was solemnized in the Methodist Church in Detroit on Feb. 8, with the Rev. Morton L. Stevens officiating. The attendants were Miss Catherine Reed Heartwell, cousin of the bride, and David Roy Thompson. The bride is a graduate of Wayne University, located in Detroit. The groom was a member of the 1940 graduating class of Providence High School. He also attended the University of Kentucky before entering the service. Truett Murphy and his sister, Mrs Gladys Smith of Jonesboro, Arkansas, were Sunday visitors of their aunt, Mrs Viola White. Mr and Mrs Walker Barr returned home Monday after attending the Wurzlow - Moore wedding in Houma, La. They also visited in New Orleans and attended part of the Mardi Gras. Bill Benjamin, Student at the University of Kentucky, Lexington, spent the week-end with his parents, Mr and Mrs J. L. Benjamin. Wilbur Little of Evansville was a week-end visitor with his parents, Mr and Mrs Bert Little. Mr and Mrs Frank Head are parents of a daughter, born Tuesday. Weight eight pounds. Raymond Baker was in Gary, Ind., Friday visiting his sister, Mrs Paul Johnson of Evansville who is a patient in the Mercy Hospital following a car accident in which her husband was killed. Mrs. J.C. Sugg is visiting her niece, Mrs. Virginia Long, in Dallas, Texas. Birthday Party Given for Betty Cooper "abstracted" A birthday party was given Saturday afternoon, Feb. 15, at the home of Mr and Mrs Vert Fraser in honor of the eighth birthday of their granddaughter, Betty Cooper. Shower honors Mr. and Mrs. Blackwell "abstracted" A miscellaneous shower was given Thursday afternoon at the home of Mr and Mrs Charlie Curry in honor of Mr and Mrs Horace Blackwell, Jr. Mrs C. J.Miedreich and Mrs R. L. Price of Providence and Miss Nell Williams of Marion attended funeral services for Mrs Melinda Loving in Sturgis Tuesday. Mrs Loving was an aunt of Mrs Miedreich and Miss Williams. Mrs. Thomas Matlock of Lynn, Mass., is visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.B. Benjamin. Glenda Sue Kelley Mr. and Mrs. Elbert Kelley are parents of a daughter, Glenda Sue, born Feb. 13 in Cardwell's Clinic. Weight was eight and one-fourth pounds. Mrs. Kelley and daughter were dismissed Saturday. Mary Ford Baker of Nashville spent the week-end with her mother, Mrs. Addie Baker. Mr and Mrs J. C. Brinkley of Campbellsville spent the week-end with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. H.L. Brinkley and Mrs. R.C. Babb. Allen Melton and James Elliot were in Louisville Monday. She has been named Joyce Faye. Mrs Lewis and baby are now at the home of her parents, Mr and Mrs E.S. Cowan in Evansville and will return to her home here the latter part of this week. Wm. Doris Taylor of Detroit arrived last week to visit his parents, Mr and Mrs B.B. Taylor and Jimmy Taylor. ADDITIONAL CLAY NEWS A daughter, weighing seven pounds, was born Monday to Mr and Mrs Charlie Hill of the Hopewell section. A son, David Earl Arhelger, was born to Mr and Mrs Henry Arhelger of the Clay country Wednesday morning, Feb. 12. Mrs Arhelger is the former Miss Stella Harris of Clay. Mr and Mrs Warren Hill and Mr and Mrs Louvell Shields attended the funeral of George P. Jeter in Henderson Sunday. Thos. Arden Parrish of Marion spent the week-end with his parents, Mr and Mrs T. L. Parrish at the home of Mrs J. D. Parrish. Nancy Edna Wells and Robert W. Jones of Evansville spent the week-end here at the home of their parents. POOLE NEWS Betty Williams, who is attending school in Bowling Green, spent the week- end with her parents, Mr and Mrs Ellis Williams.
