C. Jewell Mrs. S. C. Jewell, 76, died at 9:25 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 12, at the home of her daughter, Mrs John Funston in Henderson. Mrs Jewell had made her home with a son T. B. Jewell in Poole for sometime but was visiting in Henderson at the time of her death. Other survivors include daughter, Mrs Tom Darr and Mrs Arthur Groves of Poole, 12 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs J. W. Johnston of Poole and Mrs Noah Newton of South Carolina; and a brother, Carl Crowley of Poole. Funeral services were conducted Friday afternoon at the General Baptist church in Poole with the Rev. E. Y. Laslie officiating. Burial was in the Shady Grove cemetery in Poole. Mrs John Stevens Died Tuesday Night Mrs John Stevens, 85, died at 10 p.m. Tuesday at her home on Leeper Lane. She suffered a fractured hip when she fell about three months ago. Survuvors include four daughters, Mrs Todd Waide, Mrs Finis Edwards, Mrs Chester Dunbar of Providence and Mrs Jim Vick of Springfield, Tenn., and one son, Virgil Stevens, Providence. Funeral services were held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Methodist church in Shady Grove with the Rev. Carrol Yarbrough officiating. Burial was in the Shady Grove cemetery. Wheatcroft Man Finds Long Lost Sister Lee Powell, Wheatcroft, has been reunited with his sister, Clara, after being separated from her when she was only three months old. He had not seen or heard from her since she was sent to an orphanage, concerning which he had no information, in 1907, forty years ago. Recently, a letter was addressed to any newspaper, Wheatcroft, asking that an advertisement be put in the paper seeking the whereabouts of brothers or sisters of the now Mrs Aubrey Dudley. She had gone to the orphanage and officials there had told her that her relatives resided in or near Wheatcroft. Mrs Kathryn Cullen Doss, representative of The Journal-Enterprise in Wheatcroft, answered the letter since there is no newspaper in Wheatcroft and told Mrs Dudley that her brother, Lee, resided near Wheatcroft and to write him for more information. Following correspondence, Mr Powell went to Louisville and recognized his long lost sister because of her great resemblance to her other sisters. He also discovered that she has four children and is a widow. It was quite a happy reunion and all members of the family are planning on being together soon. J. C. Johnson,86, Dies Near Dixon James Calvin Johnson, 86, retired farmer, died at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at his home near Dixon. Survivors include the wife, Tina; five sons, Odie of Sebree, Roland, Garrett and Thurman of Slaughters rural route, and Herman of Evansville; four daughters, Mrs Verdie Williams of Wadesville, Ind., Mrs Susie Rakestraw, Mrs Kate Johnson and Mrs Della Bridwell, of Slaughters rural route; a half brother, W. L. Carnal of Slaughters rural route, and 15 grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Mt. Pleasant church with the Rev. J. E. Hartford officiating. Burial was in the Mt. Pleasant cemetery. Mrs J. L. Scott,74, Dies Sunday Night Mrs Laura Dell Scott, 74, died at her home on Union Street at 7 p.m. Sunday. She was the former Della Rayburn and had been a resident of Providence for many years. Her husband; who survives, was a photographer until his retirement a few years ago. Survivors include the husband, J. L. Scott; a sister, Mrs Fannie Hammack of Morganfield and three stepchildren, Mrs Mildred Frasier of Madisonville, Mrs Blonnie Vaughn of Evansville and Roscoe Scott of Chicago. Two nieces and a nephew also survive. Funeral services were conducted at the home Tuesday afternoon at one O'clock with the Rev. E. G. Sisk officiating. Burial was in the Oak Grove cemetery at Dixon. Brother of Mrs. G.H. Cox Dies in California Mrs. G.H. Cox, Cedar street, received news Sunday of the death Saturday of her brother, W.F. Smith in Las Gatos, Calif. He was a former resident of Providence. Survivors include the wife, Mary; a daughter, Billy Price; and two sisters, Mrs. Cox and Mrs. P.C. Pierce of Vicksburg, Miss. Mr and Mrs Charles Fortenberry were in Bloomington, Ind. Tuesday accompanying their son, William H. Fortenberry, who is a student at Indiana University. Mr and Mrs Bryan Chandler and children, Dorothy and Happy, near Dixon, enjoyed a fish fry at the home of Mr and Mrs Sam Jones Wednesday night of last week. Mrs Avery Winstead visited with her parents, Mr and Mrs L. B. Hanor, near Clay, Sunday afternoon. Mrs Katherine Rayburn and son, Walter, of Evansville spent Sunday with Mr and Mrs Whit Kuykendall. Mr and Mrs Delbert McGraw near Sebree, spent the week-end with Mr and Mrs Claude Winstead and daughter, Shirley. Erskin Rakestraw, near Slaughters, was a week-end visitor with Mr and Mrs Carvill Myers and daughter. Mrs Luke Osburn and Mrs Alma Campbell of Henderson county spent Sunday afternoon with Mr and Mrs Bob Trice and daughter, Roma. Mrs Marvin Knight of Owenton, arrived in Dixon Sunday to be with her mother, Mrs Georgia Wise, who is ill of pneumonia. Mrs Ida Hardwick had as her dinner guests, Saturday, Mrs Alma Campbell of Corydon, Mrs Dock Watson near Dixon and Mrs Kate Norton. The dinner was given in memory of Mrs Hardwick's son, Cole Hardwick, whose birthday would have been Saturday. Cole has been dead 15 years. Birthday Party A birthday party was given Wednesday evening Feb 13, in honor of the thirteenth birthday of Miss Mildred Bumpus, at her home. Those present were Mildred Bumpus, Patsy Chandler, Evelyn and Gladys Jones. Games were played and refreshments were served. Mrs Adell Owen spent Monday night near Dixon with her sisters, Misses Minnie and Bertha Woods. Mrs Roscoe Small and daughter, Miss Patsy Small, and Jean Taylor of Evansville spent Sunday afternoon with Mrs Small's mother, Mrs Adell Owen. Mrs Bill Knight spent Saturday night and Sunday in Evansville with Mr and Mrs Ellis Winstead and son, Pascal, and Mr and Mrs Roy Garnett. Mrs Georgie Powell has returned to her home here after a few days visit with her parents at Poole. Miss Alice Margaret Crowell of Princeton spent a few days last week with her grandmother, Mrs Jennie Baker. Mr and Mrs Chester Winstead were Sunday visitors at Sebree with his parents. Miscellaneous Shower Given For Recent Bride A miscellaneous shower was given Saturday afternoon in the home of Mrs Ray Melton, for Mrs John Mooney, a recent bride. Many useful presents were received by the honoree. Birthday Dinner Enjoyed Sunday Mr and Mrs Sam Jones, Mrs Hollie Harmon, and Mr and Mrs Wallace Harmon were guests at the home of Mr and Mrs A. B. Harmon near Dixon. It was the birthdays of Mrs Sam Jones and Mrs A. B. Harmon. Both were born on the same day and are the same age. LISMAN NEWS Mr and Mrs Seldon Farthering of Sturgis are parents of a son, born Feb. 15 at the Sturgis Hospital. Mrs Farthering was the former Miss Mary Ima Wallace of Lisman. Larry Allen Bays, five year old son of Mr and Mrs Vernon Bays of Evansville and grandson of Mr and Mrs Jay Stuart, Providence, fell last Friday and broke his arm just above the wrist. Mrs O. C. She weighed seven pounds and six ounces, and has been named Karen Shea. Mrs K. N. Jennings has received word that her father, C. E. Hodge, is seriously ill at the home of a son, L. T. Pauletta Walker Chief Petty Officer and Mrs Robert D. Walker of Waukegan, Ill., are parents of a daughter, Pauleta, born Feb. 22 in Cardwell's Clinic. Weight was eight and one-half pounds. The father is stationed in Shanghai, China, and Mrs Walker is a sister of Mrs Carrol Vaughn. Charles Cummins, son of Mr and Mrs Curtis Cummins, Detroit, had his tonsils and adenoids removed in a Detroit hospital Feb. 13. Kerney Cole is leaving Friday to return to Nichols General Hospital in Louisville after spending a leave here with his wife and son. The Rev. W. D. Alice Faye Dillbeck A daughter, Alice Faye, was born to Mr and Mrs Raymond Dillbeck on Wednesday, Feb. 19. She weighed seven and one-half pounds. Birthday Dinner A family dinner was given Sunday at the home of Mr and Mrs Alton Vaughn in honor of the thirteenth birthday of their daughter, Carolyn. Those present were Mr and Mrs Wm. Vaughn of Providence, Mr and Mrs Boyd Robertson and son and Ennis Robertson. CGM Chas. Brown of Great Lakes spent a few days leave here with his parents, Mr and Mrs George Brown last week. CGM Brown was enroute to the west coast. Mr and Mrs Melvin Landreth of Detroit visited Mr and Mrs Tom Woodard last week. Thos. Franklin Southwood returned Thursday to his home in Chattanooga after visiting his grandparents, Mr and Mrs Frank Fortenbery. Mrs Fortenbery returned to Chattanooga with him for a visit. Michael Vaughn visited his grandparents, Mr and Mrs Alvy Braden of Diamond last week. Everett Tidwell attended the funeral during the week-end of his father at Lafayette, Tenn. Mr and Mrs Bryan Blackenship moved Wednesday from Evansville to their farm near here. Mr and Mrs Jim Muir, who lived at the Blankenship farm will leave Friday for Gurver, Texas to live with Mr and Mrs Clifton Muir. Jimmy Holland and Lewis Nall of Bowling Green spent the week-end at their homes here. WHEATCROFT Mr and Mrs Charles Gibbons and son of Chicago spent the week-end with her mother, Mrs Virgil Wilson and Mr Wilson. Miss Jimmie Nell Brown of Sturgis spent Saturday night and Sunday with her grandmother, Mrs Della Rayburn. Miss Joan Marks of Henderson spent the week-end with her parents, Mr and Mrs Clarence Marks. Mr and Mrs Arnold Brown spent Sunday in Sturgis with her parents, Mr and Mrs Mitchell Mills. Merritt Marsh, Lacey Farmer and Chas. S. Young are working in Indianapolis. Mrs Marsh and children will go there in the near future. Charlie Clark, Jr., Bowling Green spent the week-end with his parents, Mr and Mrs Charlie Clark.
