P. Wilson, 84, Dies Thursday J. P. Wilson, 84, retired farmer, died at 2 a.m. Thursday in his home on Montgomery Avenue in Providence. Survivors are the wife, Lou A. Wilson; two brothers, Emmett and Shoat Wilson, Madisonville; and a foster son, Hugh Cranor. Funeral services were held at the First Baptist church at 2 p.m. Saturday, with the Rev. Rupert Utley of Madisonville officiating. Burial was in Lakeview cemetery. Infant Dies Larry Douglas, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ira D. Tabor, Evansville, formerly of Providence, born March 23 in Deaconess Hospital, died there March 26. The body was brought to Melton Funeral in Providence and burial was Thursday in Traylor cemetery. Mr. and Mrs. George Tabor, Providence are grandparents. Mrs. Nancy Marks Dies Friday Mrs. Nancy Marks, 82, died Friday in the home of her daughter, Mrs. Noah Oakley, in Evansville following an illness of two months. Mrs. Marks, widow of the late I. W. Marks, lived in the Tilden section until the death of her husband seven years ago, when she moved to the home of her son, Herman Marks in Providence. Survivors are five daughters, Mrs. Oakley of Evansville, Mrs. Charles Stinnett of Detroit, Mich., Mrs. Lester Owen of Massilon, Ohio, Mrs. Nora McCulley of Haubstadt, Ind., and Mrs. Eddie Brown, Henderson; a son Herman Marks, Providence; a sister, Mrs. Bruce Spencer, and a brother, Russell Stevens, both of Henderson County. Mrs. Marks was a member of Mt. Lebanon General Baptist church and the Poole chapter of the Order of Eastern Star. Funeral services were conducted at 1:30 p.m. Sunday in Mt. Lebanon church by the Rev. E. Y. Laslie, and burial was in the church cemetery. George W. Whitsell Of Slaughter Dies George W. Whitsell, 81, of Slaughters died Tuesday in a Hopkinsville hospital. Survivors are a daughter, Mrs. Beulah Stater, and a son, Claude, both of Evansville; sisters, Mrs. Mary Harold, of Oklahoma, Mrs. Jim Dickerson, of Henderson, and Mrs. W. T. Halls, of Slaughters Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the home of Mrs. Walls, and burial was in Slaughters cemetery. Powell H. Parker Dies in Clay Powell H. Parker, 67, died at 9:30 p.m. Friday at the home of his sister, Mrs. T. K. Watson, and Mr. Watson, in Clay following an illness of three years. Mr. Parker came to Clay from Birmingham, Ala., in October 1944. Survivors besides the sister is a brother, George Parker of Louisville. Funeral services were conducted at Franklin Funeral Home in Clay at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, with the Rev. R. T. Mitchell officiating. Van Jenkins of Oakland City, Ind., who died at his home in Oakland City the first part of last week, was buried at the I.O.O.F. cemetery here Wednesday. Mr. Jenkins formerly lived here. Lisman News Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Cole and daughter, Anna Lou, attended the funeral of Mrs. Cole's aunt at the Lebanon church near Dixon Sunday afternoon. Clay News Mrs. Seldon Farhering and son, Brownie Lee, of Sturgis are spending a few days this week with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Wallace. Wheatcroft Mr. and Mrs. Chas. F. Jenkins of Earlington, Mrs. Laura Cullen and Mrs. Kathryn Cullen Doss attended the funeral of Mrs. Sophrona Quirey in Sturgis Sunday afternoon. Page 4 Dixon Happenings Mr. and Mrs. Charles Baker are the parents of a son born Saturday at Cardwell's clinic in Providence. He has been named David Alan and weighed ten pounds. Mrs. Baker and son were discharged Wednesday. Poole News H.G. Allen Observes 85th Birthday (abstracted) On Wednesday, March 26, H.G. Allen celebrated his eighty-fifth birthday, his youngest son, Edward Allen, his thirty-first birthday, and his niece, Mrs. Annie Brackett, of Corydon, her thirty-ninth birthday, at the home of Mr. Allen in Poole. Fiftieth Wedding Anniversary Celebrated Sunday, March 23, was a very happy day for Mr. and Mrs. Bennie P. Jewell of oole as they celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary. Forty-one guests were present for the family dinner at noon. Relatives included Mrs. Jewell's sisters, Mrs. Rose Wilson of Wolcott, Ind., and Mrs. Lura Shortzer of Gary, Ind.; her nieces, Mrs. Glenn Schubert of Indianapolis and Miss Margaret Wilson, a teacher in Speedway Schools, Indianapolis; a granddaughter, Miss Jane Mitchell of Evansville; nieces of Mr. Jewell, Miss Erma Bridwell and Miss Naomi Jewell of Henderson; Mr. and Mrs. Thurman Johnson and son, Franklin, Slaughters; Mr. and Mrs. Jewell Bridwell and daughter, Gale, Mr. and Mrs. B. C. Gentry, Spotsville; Wayne Gentry, Pvt. Open house was held at the home from 2:00 to 5:00 o'clock and many friends called to extend best wishes and congratulations. Ferns and other house plants grown by the celebrants decorated the home. During the receiving hour, refreshments of wedding anniversary cake, gold and white ice cream, tea and coffee were served. An artistically decorated tier cake topped by a miniature bride and groom centered the table. Gold tapers in crystal holders flanked either side of the cake. Jonquils, gold decorated napkins and a golden tea set carried out the decorative scheme with favors of gold ribbon bow and bell with "Elva and Bennie 1897-1947." Mr. and Mrs. Jewell were the recipients of many lovely gifts which were unusually suitable for the occasion. Among out of town guests were C. G. Thompson, a former teacher of Mr. Jewell, who brought a group of pictures of his school when Mr. Jewell was a pupil; Mr. and Mrs. Dave Quinn of Henderson, (Mrs. Quinn was an attendant at the wedding fifty years ago); Mr. and Mrs. Jack Weber of Indianapolis; Mr. and Mrs. Melton Gentry of Evansville. Shady Grove Last Rites Held For Former Resident Mrs. Angie Jane Boyd, a former resident of Shady Grove, was buried here Sunday afternoon. Funeral services were held at the Shady Grove Baptist church of which she was a charter member, with the Rev. J.S. Woodall officiating. S. Navy, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Belt, Providence, were married March 7 in the bride's home. The Rev. John D. Rice officiated. Red and white carnations were used in decoration. Mr. LaFromboise gave the bride in marriage. (Description of wedding clothes omitted) George W. Coleman was best man. Mrs. Coleman assisted the bride's mother at the informal reception after the ceremony. The young couple is living at Guild apartments in Portland. Luckoff-Roth The Deshler-Wallick hotel ballroom in Columbus, Ohio, was the scene of the wedding on March 9 of Miss Beatrice Luckoff, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Luckoff, Columbus, to Dr. David B. Roth, son of Mrs. Isaac Roth, Louisville, formerly of Providence. The ceremony was performed at 5:30 p. m. by Rabbi Harry Kaplan. (Description of wedding clothes omitted) Miss Joyce Switow of Louisville was maid of honor, and bridesmaids were Misses Jeanne Blacker, Omaha, Neb.; Myra Rothbiatt and Louise Altman, Gallipolis, Ohio. Donald Roth was best man and users were James Roth, Nat Bailen, and Kahlman Stern, Louisville, and Sheldon Hymson, Lexington. The bride graduated from Baxley High School and attended Northwestern University where she was a member of Alpha Epsilon Phi sorority. Dr. Roth graduated from Northern Illinois College of Optometry and spent three and one-half years in the Air force. After a trip to Miami Beach, Fla., the couple are making their home at 715 Woodlawn Avenue, Louisville. Frazer-Summers Miss Rose Jane Frazer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Park Frazer, Barberton, Ohio, formally of Providence, was married at 12:30 p. m. on Saturday, March 15, to Lawrence Summers, son of Mrs. E. S. Summers, Boone, Iowa. The single ring service was read by Rev. Dr. H. M. Wyrick, pastor of First Baptist church, Barberton, in the home of the bride's parents. (Description of decorations and wedding clothes omitted) Mrs. Wyrick played the Bridal Chorus from Lehengrin for the processional, and Miss Betty Jane Buchanan, cousin of the bride sang Beethoven's "I Love Thee." Mrs. John Olson, Madison, Wis., daughter of Dr. Wyrick, was the matron-of-honor. The bride had been bridesmaid at her wedding. Captain Terrene D. Summers, Boone, Iowa, brother of the bridegroom, served as best man. The bride, given in marriage by her father. The bride was graduated from Providence High School and from Brenau College, Gainesville, Ga., and is a member of Zeta Tau Alpha sorority. She also attended Akron University. She is employed in the engineering department of Babcock and Wilcox company in Barberton. The bridegroom was graduated from Iowa State where he received his B. S. degree, and he obtained his M. S. degree at Utah A. and M. He is now employed as chemist in the research laboratory of the Pittsburgh Plate Glass Company in Barberton. During the war he was in explosive research for Remington Arms in Bridgeport, Conn. He expects to study for his Ph. D. in the fall. The wedding trip was taken by plane to Boston and New York. They are making their home at 559 West Lake Avenue, Barberton. Dinner Honors Son Home From Overseas A family dinner was given Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Harkins for their son, Douglas, who has just returned from overseas duty in the Philippines. Present were Mrs. Harkins' parents, Mr. and Mrs. Huston Pounds; her sister, Mrs. Evelyn McGaw, and daughter, Miss June McGaw, Evansville; and Ann Harkins. Mr. and Mrs. Robert L. Oates, Lisman road, are parents of a daughter born April 1. Weight was twelve pounds. Shirley Mae Richmond A daughter, Shirley Mae, was born March 23 in Hopkins County Hospital, Madisonville, to Mr. and Mrs. Doss Richmond, Providence. David Lee Sudbury A son, David Lee, was born April 1 in Cardwell's Clinic to Mr. and Mrs. Horace Sudbury, Pontiac, Mich. Weight was eight and one-fourth pounds. Mrs. Sudbury is the former Miss Olendela Morse, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ottis Morse. Son Born A son weighing nine and one-half pounds was born March 27 to Mr. and Mrs. Denver Davis. page 8 Slaughters Mrs. Bob Brown of Madisonville spent Monday with her sister, Mrs. Will Prather, who has been quite ill. Mrs. Clyde Fowler and daughter, Sandra, of Henderson were guests of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Claud Beal, last week. Mr. and Mrs. W.K. McCord, jr., of Clay spent last week-end with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Nance. Miss Mable Tompkins returned home with them for a visit. Mrs. A.L. Brooks and son, Terry, of Evansville spent last week-end with her sister, Mrs. Charley Whitsell.
