William, former resident of the Poole section, died Monday morning at his home in Detroit after a short illness. The body was taken to the home of Boyd Busby on Highway 56. Funeral services were held at 3 p. m. Wednesday in the General Baptist church in Poole, and burial was in Shady Grove cemetery, Poole. Survivors are three sons, Ansel, Murray, and Laverne Williams, all of Detroit. Former Resident Dies in Louisville Champ Gist Rice, 75, former Providence man, died Saturday morning at his home in Louisville. Survivors are the wife, Allie Imboden Rice; three daughters, Mrs. C. R. Haley, Mrs. J. M. Real, and Mrs. R. H. Davis, Louisville; a sister, Mrs. Maude McGraw, Glendale, Calif.; three brothers, F. T., L. M., and E. K. Rice; and three grandchildren. Funeral and burial were in Louisville. He weighed seven and one-half pounds and has been named Thomas Elza. --- Kathryn Mayee A daughter, Kathryn, was born April 8 to Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Mayee of Bowling Green. Mrs. Mayee was the former Miss Cuba Johnson of Webster county. --- Miscellaneous Shower Given Saturday A miscellaneous shower was given Saturday night at the county home of Mr. and Mrs. H. R. Griggs for their daughter, Mrs. Bill Curry of Indianapolis, who is a recent bride. --- Wayne Johnson returned to Murray Friday after attending the funeral of his grandmother, Mrs. M. A. Duvall. --- Mrs. G. E. R. Hearin and Mr. Hearin. --- Miss Jean Marks of Henderson was a week-end visitor with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Marks, near Dixon. --- Mrs. Charles Snyder and son of Washington, Ind., are visiting with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lora Villines. --- Shoulders - Turner Miss Rosa Lee Shoulders, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Stonewall Shoulders, near Dixon, and George Turner, son of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Turner, were married Wednesday in the office of the county Judge with Judge W. D. Whitledge officiating. Mr. and Mrs. Turner are presently making their home with the bride's parents. --- Miss Ruth Stewart of Nashville, Tenn., spent a few days recently with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. T. A. Stewart. --- Mrs. Robert Davis of Madisonville and Mrs. E. C. Kellough of Evansville are spending a few days here with their father, Sam Cavanaugh and sister, Miss Geneva Cavanaugh, who is ill. --- Mr. and Mrs. Jack Whitledge and son, Garland, spent Sunday with Mrs. Whitledge's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Shoulders near Clay. --- Miss Vonnie Marie Villines, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. T. Villines, is seriously ill at the home of her parents near Dixon. --- Mrs. Pearl Henson, left this week to visit her son, Bill Henson and Mrs. Henson at South Bend, Ind. --- Mr. and Mrs. Charles Fortenberry will have as week-end guests their three children, Thomas B. Fortenberry, enroute from Chicago to his home in Shreveport, La., Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Watson, students in Evansville college, and William H. Fortenberry, student in Indiana University, Bloomington, Ind. --- L. A. Stone, of Henderson, who has been spending the winter months in Orlando, Fla.: will return this week for a visit with his sister, Mrs. R. L. Overby, and Mr. Overby, near Clay. --- Warren Mitchell has returned to his home in Detroit after a few days visit here with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. Y. Mitchell. --- The Rev. and Mrs. Frank Mitchell and family of Charleston were visitors Friday with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. Y. Mitchell. --- Ernie Kellough has returned to his home in Howell, Ind., after a visit with his sister, Mrs. Charlie Fowler and Mr. Fowler near Dixon. --- Patricia Ann Rayburn has returned to her home in Owensboro after a few days visit with her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Rayburn. ** Onton News** Harmon-Cates A wedding of local interest was that of Gwindolyn Harmon, daughter of Mrs. Irene Harmon, and L. B. Cates, son of Mr. and Mrs. Will Cates. The wedding took place at the General Baptist church at Henderson Saturday afternoon, April 12, at 4:00. Attendants were Mr. and Mrs. Bill Cates of Onton. --- Mr. and Mrs. Emerson Thomasson and Mrs. Marvin Parker and sons of Evansville were here last week-end to attend the funeral of Mrs. Bessie Hancock. **Slaughters** Birthday Celebrated Mr. and Mrs. Charley Ward gave a birthday dinner at their home Sunday honoring her father, Netter Adkins, of Greenville, on his birthday. Other guests were Mr. and Mrs. Bob Hudspeth and children, Harold and Louise, of Greenville. --- Birthday Celebrated Sunday with Dinner Mr. and Mrs. Lee Rakestraw, Mr. and Mrs. Huge Tompkins and daughter, Betty Sue, and Miss Thelma Qualls were dinner guest of Mrs. Powell Davis Rakestraw Sunday. She celebrated her twenty-third birthday. --- Birthday Celebrated A birthday supper was served at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard McCormick on April 9 in honor of Miss Pauline McCormick of Slaughters. Those attending included Mr. and Mrs. John Austin, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Ellis, Miss Helen Ellis, Frances Ray, Thurman Ellis and A. B. Hallum, all of Ashbyburg. --- Mr. and Mrs. Marshall Henry and children of Madisonville spent Sunday with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Orah Poole. --- Mrs. Everett Robinson and son, Monte, of Madisonville spent Sunday with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Rob Prather. --- Sgt. Jack Newton, who has been stationed in Japan for the past year, is at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Chris Newton, of Mt. Pleasant. He will receive his discharge May 1. --- Mrs. Bob Nance, spent last week-end in clay with her daughter, Mrs. W. K. McCord, Jr., and Mr. McCord. --- Mrs. J. W. Jones and daughter, Virginia, visited her daughter, Mrs. C. E. Withers, who is quite ill at St. Mary's Hospital in Evansville, last Thursday. --- Mr. and Mrs. Frank Winstead, who have been in Evansville with their daughter, Mrs. Claud Cates, while recovering from major operations, are now visiting their son, Franklin Winstead and family in Paducah before returning to their home near Slaughters. --- Mr. and Mrs. Lossie Winstead and children, Laverne and Charles, and Mr. and Mrs. R. M. Townsend and daughter spent Sunday in Hanson with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. S. A. Mrs. McGaw, who is a patient in Cardwell's Clinic, is improving. --- Miss Malvina Hancock of Morganfield spent the week-end with her sister, Mrs. Arthur Shanks, and Mr. Shanks. --- Wilma Sue Hill A daughter, Wilma Sue, was born April 16 to Mr. and Mrs. James Edward Hill, Diamond. Weight was eight and one-half pounds. --- Mrs. Susan Bruce of Illinois was a visitor last week with her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Ezra Bruce. --- Dora Melton has returned to Detroit, Mich., after a visit with her mother, Mrs. J. F. Freeman. --- Mrs. Kelly Simpson left Sunday for a visit in Detroit with her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. James Aldridge, jr. --- Mrs. Britt Stanley and daughters, Mitzi and Nancy, of Louisville, were visitors recently with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Villines. --- Mr. and Mrs. Hoyt Stephens and son, Freddie, of Birmingham. Babb. --- Mrs. Tyrus Miller of Detroit, Mich., is visiting her mother, Mrs. Delia Morse and family. --- Jane Elliott James is returning today to her home in Bowling Green after several days' visit with her uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Cannaday. --- Mr. and Mrs. Joseph B. Rigo are leaving today for Portland, Montana after a visit with Mrs. Rigo's mother, Mrs. Lute Cullen, and her sister, Miss Edrie Cullen. --- Kerney Benjamin, of Phoenix, Ariz., arrived Monday for a visit with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Benjamin, and Mr. and Mrs. Lucien Benjamin. --- Mrs. Carl E. Head and sons, of Detroit, Mich., have returned home after spending a week with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert E. Oldham of Diamond, and Mr. and Mrs. V. B. Head of Providence. --- Billy Owen McKenzie Mr. and Mrs. William H. McKenzie, 504 Coleman Ave., are parents of a son, Billy Owen, born April 11. Weight was nine and one-half pounds. --- Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Barnes and daughter, Barbara, returned Monday to their home in Louisville after a visit with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. B. Barnes. --- Marriage License Clarence Gray and Lula Tweddell, both of Providence, were granted a marriage license and were married April 4 by Judge W. D. L. Crowley. --- Mr. and Mrs. Jack Chandler and son, Bobby, spent Sunday in Sturgis with Mr. Chandler's sister, Mrs. Esker Taylor. --- I.G. Allen of Poole recently celebrated his eighty-fifth birthday. He is a great friend of all the Greyhound bus drivers and on his birthday prepared sandwiches for all the ones passing through Poole. Mr. Allen related many interesting adventures, his chief sport for many years being hunting. He has hunted in several states, including Kansas, Missouri, Arkansas and Oklahoma and has "gone all the gaits" from hunting rabbits, coons, opossums, fox, quail, squirrels, deer, turkeys and up to bear hunting - says he crawfished when he got that far - and has four deer and one bobcat to his credit.
