All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/ky/kyfiles.html ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Vicki Hutchison vickihutchison@earthlink.net May 22, 2009, 9:35 pm Written: March 16, 1819 Recorded: March 17, 1819 This Indenture made this sixteenth day of March in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and nineteen between Henderson & Beaty Merchants trading under the firm of Henderson & Beaty Abindon Virginia of the one part and William Morgan of the County of Whitley and State of Kentucky of the other part Witnesseth that the said Henderson & Beaty hath this day & by these presents sold unto the said William Morgan the one equal half of their interest in six hundred and forty acres of land including the salt spring on the main Cumberland river between the mouths of Rockcastle and Laurel (reserving to the persons there in after named their respective interests in the said six hundred and forty acres say to Joseph Eve the one twelfth to Robert Letcher the one twelfth and to Robert Herndon the one eight) for and in consideration of the Lawful sum of Two Thousand Dollars to them the said Henderson & Beaty in hand paid by the said William Morgan the receipt where of they do here by acknowledge said tract of Land is Bounded as follows Beginning on two Elms on south bank of the river running N27W320 poles crossing the river to a white oak popular & hickory thence N63E320 poles to two white oakes thence South 27E320 poles crossing a high point of rocks near the river to a stake thence south 63W320 poles crossing the river to the beginning to have and to hold the said Interest in the sd six hundred and forty acres of Land to the said William Morgan his heirs and Assigns to the sole use benefit and behoof of him the sd William Morgain and the said Henderson & Beaty for themselves and their heirs doth covenant to and with the sd William Morgan & his heirs the said Interest in the six hundred and forty acres of Land together with all the appurtenences there unto belonging to the sd William Morgan his heirs and assigns and the sd Henderson & Beaty for themselves their heris & doth further covenant & agree to and with the sd William Morgan and his heirs to warrant and forever defend the sd interest in the sd six hundred & forty acres of Land against themselves their heirs and all persons claiming by through or under them In witness were of the sd Henderson and Beaty by Martin Beaty the acting partner of the firm of Henderson & Beaty have hereunto set their hands & affixed their seals the date above written signed and acknowledge in presence of Henderson & Beaty {seal} State of Kentucky Knox County Sct I do hereby certify that the foregoing Indenture of barain and sale from Martin Beaty & L.L. Henderson to William Morgan was acknowledge before me by the said Martin Beaty for himself and the said Lilbourn L Henderson to be their act an deed and the same is hereby certified to the clerk of the County Court of Whitley where the Land Lies Given under my hand as Deputy Clerk of the County Court of Knox afore said this 17th day of March 1819 J F Ballinger.
