The submitter has given permission to the USGenWeb Archives to store the file permanently for free access. http://www.usgwarchives.net ***************************************************************************** FROM THE NEWS-JOURNAL, CORBIN, KY, 2 NOV 2000, PART 1 Everett Rains, 97, Watts Creek Road, Williamsburg, passed away Wednesday afternoon, October 25, 2000 at the Baptist Regional Medical Center, Corbin. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rachel Goldie Meadors Rains; a daugher, Atha Mildred Gant; and a son, William Herschel Rains. He and Rachel were married March 28, 1925. He was saved and baptised into the Watson Chapel Baptist Church in 1950 and has been a Deacon of Watson Chapel Baptist Church for many years. He started Rains Gas Company in 1961. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Debbie Bird and husband, E.S. of Williamsburg and Mrs. Evelyn Allgood and husband, R.L. of Winston Salem, North Carolina; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Jean Geary of Williamsburg; 11 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends to mourn his passing. Funeral services were held Saturday, October 28 at the Croley Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Doyle Lester officiating. Burial was in the Rains Cemetery. Pallbearers were Joe Petrey, Roger Griffith, Rick Croley, Mack Lawson, Tom Maggard, Harold Taylor, Reed Brown, and James Hodge. Croley Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
