OBITS: SMITH, Everett - 18 Oct 2000 - Whitley Co, KY Date: Sun, 29 Oct 2000 00:36:07 -0400 Submitted by: "Bobbie Ivey-Lewallen" OBITS FROM THE NEWS JOURNAL PART 1 10/26/00 Everett Smith, 92, Winter Haven, Florida, formerly of Corbin, passed away Wednesday, October 18, 2000 at his home. He was born February 27, 1908 at Williamsburg to the late Frank and Claudia Belle Bishop Smith. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, former employee of Belk-Simpson in Corbin, and former Mason. In Corbin, he had been a deacon and Sunday School secretary at First Baptist Church; he belonged to Parkland Baptist Church in Winter Haven. His wife of 65 years, Lillian S. Smith, passed away in 1997. Survivors include two daughters and a son-in-law, Joyce Majonos of New Orleans, Louisiana, and Phyllis and Richard Warren of Winter Haven; three grandchildren, Michael Majonos of New Orleans, Dr. Sam Warren and wife of Tallahassee, Florida and Judith Anne Warren of Orlando, Florida; four great-granddaughters; a sister, Opal Upton; and brother, Clifford Smith of Williamsburg; also several nieces, nephews, and cousins in the local area; and a sister-in-law, Beatrice Evans of Winter Haven, Florida. Funeral services were held Monday, October 23 at the First Baptist Church, Corbin, with Dr. Barry Howard officiating. Interment will follow in the Highland Park Cemetery. Pallbearers were Carlton B. Upton, Alan Upton, Michael Majonos, Bill Steele, Julian Boggs, and Darrell Tremaine. Memorial contributions may be given to First Baptist Church or Good Shepherd Hospice in Auburndale, Florida.
