Joshua served in the Revolutionary War in the North Carolina Troops as a Private. Before he came to Kentucky between 1793 and 1800, he had married Jane Pleasant (b. 1770, North Carolina; d. 1830/1832, Pleasant View, Kentucky) and to them was born a son, Joshua Moses II, in 1793. After coming to Kentucky, Joshua and his family settled in Whitley County, at Pleasant View. He was allowed Pension from the Revolutionary War on Certificate Number 25058, issued 14 November 1833. The Rate was $53.33 per annum, Act of 07 June 1832, Kentucky Agency. Joshua remained at Pleasant View until his death, 26 February 1836, and was buried at Stanfill Cemetery at Pleasant View.
