Jackson Times - Mar. 19, 1936 TWO HELD FOR BAIL ON WARRANT CHARGING MONEY OBTAINED UNDER FALSE PRETENSES Homer Banks and John McQuinn were arrested Tuesday on warrants sworn to by O.L. Vest, merchant of this city, and taken before County Judge George W. Little, where they were held on charges of obtaining money under false pretense. Banks was held on a bond of $500. The two men are charged with having robbed John Stone of Wolfe County, taking from him about $100. They came to the Vest store here Tuesday and purchased a gun for $45.00, giving Mr. Vest a check on George Sewell and Son, merchants of Wolfe County for $67.50, receiving $22.50 in cash on the check. After they had gone, Mr. Vest learned that the check had been stolen and swore to warrants for the two men. They were arrested Tuesday in Wolfe County by deputy sheriffs Boone Pelfrey, Hargis Sallee and Grover Davis, and brought before Judge Little. Mr. Vest recovered the gun and all but $2.50 of the money obtained from him. They were held to the grand jury at the July term of the Breathitt Circuit Court. Stone was assaulted and robbed by the two men, accordingto evidence introduced at the trial Wednesday. It is understood that McQuinn is wanted in Lee County. Stone will go to Wolfe County to swear to warrants against the man for assaulting and robbing him.
