Jackson Times - Jan. 22, 1932 Frank Rose to fight Norman January 23 Match will be held at People's Theatre In Campton Saturday Night; Is Scheduled for 10 rounds. Frankie Rose, welter and junior middle weight champion of Kentucky and Ohio, will meet "Pep" Norman in a boxing exhibition at the People's Threatre, Campton, Saturday, January 29. Mr. Rose who weighs 148 pounds is a native of Campton. He has boxed in Kentucky, Ohio and West Virginia. He knocked out Irish O'Connor, of Cincinnati in a one-round match, Christmas night and won a newspaper decision in a ten round match in West Virginia recently. Mr. Rose is now under the management of Donny Davis of Cincinnati. He will fight in Cincinnati January 28. "Pep" Norman, a resident of Knoxville, Tenn. Is a boxer with a string of victories. He is the State's middle weight champion, weighing 153 pounds. A forfeit is required of him should he fail to appear as advertised in Campton, January 29. In the semi-finals, Jackie Centers of Fort Thomas and Clem Newport of Hazard will meet in a six round match. K.O. Mullins and Floyd Byrd, Reese Lacy and Harry Alexander, Speedy Alex and Basil Cundiff will represent the locals in the preliminaries of three and four rounds. Note: Anyone who attended Wolfe High or Breathitt Schools, 25, 35 or oops 40 plus years ago will remember Frank hitching up his pants with the inside of his wrists and doing the boxer dance.
