Governor Charles Scott, Soldier, was born in Cumberland County, Virginia. He 
was a soldier in a company of militia in the campaign of 1755, and was engaged 
at Braddock's defeat. He raised a company, and entered the army during the 
Revolutionary War; became colonel of a regiment, and was with General Wayne at 
the storming of Stony Point.  In 1785, he settled in Woodford County, Kentucky. 
He participated in the defeat of St. Clair, in 1791, and in the same year 
conducted a body of horseman against the Indian towns on the Wabash, and, in 
1794, commanded part of Wayne's forces at the battle of Failen Timbers; in 
1808, he was elected Governor of Kentucky, over the brave Colonel John Allen, 
who fell in the battle of the river Raisin; and administered the affairs of the
State with great credit to himself and acceptably to the people. He was a
man of strong natural ability; had a limited education and was somewhat
unpolished in manners. Governor Scott died about 1820, having arrived at a
very advanced age.
