VERSAILLES, Ky. -- Former Woodford County Judge Matt T. Blackard died
Tuesday at Woodford Memorial Hospital of complications of pneumonia. He was 81.
Blackard, a native of Fayette County, had served as Woodford County's chief
executive for 42 years when he retired in 1981.

He attended Eastern Kentucky State Teachers College and Transylvania
University, and after he graduated from Jefferson School of Law in 1933 he
began a law practice in Versailles.

Blackard was a member of Kentucky and Woodford County Bar associations and
Hillsboro Baptist Church.

Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Owen L. Range.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. tomorrow at Blackburn & Ward Funeral Home,
with burial in Versailles Cemetery.

Visitation will be at the funeral home from 4 to 8 p.m. today.
The family requests that memorial gifts be made to the American Heart
Association.
