He is the son of Joseph and Carmelite (Richard) Doucet, both natives of Louisiana. To them thirteen children were born, twelve of whom are living. The father died in 1872, and the mother, in 1878. Both were members of the Catholic church. The subject of this sketch enlisted as a soldier in 1862 in the C. S. A., and was an active participant in that struggle until the dose of the war. He was first in the infantry and later in the cavalry service. After the war he returned to Louisiana and engaged in farming. This he has continued on a small scale with success. Mr. Doucet and wife are the parents of eight children, four sons and four daughters, seven of whom are living. Southwest Louisiana Biographical and Historical, Biographical Section, p. 262.
