Arnaud Benjamin Goss, Sr., son of John Jode Sr. and Eliza Parker was born January 12, 1835 in the state of Michigan. His mother died after his birth and before November, 1846 when he would have been 11 years of age. It was during this time his family moved from Michigan to Ste. Genevieve, Missouri. There John met the widow Elizabeth McHenry and married her November 26, 1849. Benjamin Goss, Sr. age 21 married Lutresa Schwartz, born April 29, 1841 the 15 year old daughter of Adam and Marie Beleau of France. During the Civil War Benjamin worked in a flour mill in St. Louis, Missouri. Benjamin and his family moved to southwest Louisiana in 1865. He lived in the Prairie Faque Taique area long before the town of Eunice existed. He owned 550 acres of virgin timber south of Eunice and cut much of the wood before 1894. Benjamin was the progenitor of the large Goss family that settled in the Richard Community around the area known as the Baptist Academy in Acadia Parish. His family became large farmers in the area. Benjamin Goss, Sr. died August 24, 1899 at the age of 67 years 7 months and 12 days . His wife Lutresa "Theresa or Tracy" Schwartz died March 3, 1914 at the age of 71 years, 11 months and 25 days. Benjamin and Tracy are buried in the Prudhome Cemetery near Pitreville, in Acadia Parish.
