John Jode Goss, Sr., 27 years of age married Elisa Parker, 16 years of age, the daughter of General Frederick Parker who served in the Revolutionary War, 1827 in Ohio or Michigan. Elisa Parker died in Michigan or Missouri between 1835, the date of the birth of her last child and 1846, the date of his second marriage. The following are the children of John Jode Goss, Sr. and Elisa Parker: Louisa Goss, b. Circa 1828 (Michigan) m. 1834 Henry Squire.( No other Information); Mary Goss, b. Circa 1830 (Michigan) m. 1846 George "Tony" Tipton. (No other information); 3. Henry Goss, b. May 8, 1833 (Michigan) m. October 1, 1854 Mary Schwartz d/o Adam & Marie Beleau; Benjamin Goss, b. January 12, 1835 (Michigan) m. July 13, 1856 Lutresa "Theresa" Schwartz; John J. Goss, Sr. moved to Ste. Genevieve, Ste. Genevieve County, Missouri between 1835, the date of his last child with Elisa Parker and November 29, 1846, the date of his marriage to the widow Elizabeth McHenry (maiden name not known.). John J. Goss, Sr. 46 years of age, and the widow Elizabeth McHenry, 27 years of age, was married November 29, 1846 in Ste. Genevieve, Missouri. (Marriage license recorded January 1, 1847, Book A, page 41, Ste. Genevieve County, Missouri.) The 1850 U.S. Census Population Schedule Ste. Genevieve Township, Ste. Genevieve County, Missouri, page 442, house 255, family 268 list the following: Head of house, John Goss, male, b. Ohio, 45 years of age; Elisacith, female, b. Tenn., 31 years of age; Henry, male, b. Michigan, 16 years of age; Benjamin., male b. Ohio, 14 years of age; William, male, b. Alabama, 10 years of age; George, male b. Alabama, 5 years of age, Susan, female, b. Missouri, 2 years of age; John, male, b. Missouri, 9/12 years of age; Riolucuss Inisder, male, b. Germany, 21 years of age; Henry Puttaum, male, b. Germany, 40 years of age; Augustus Baile, male, b. Germany, 22 years of age; George Hurst, male, b. Germany, 36 years of age. (Author's note: Henry and Benjamin, sons of John Goss's first marriage. William and George son's of Elizabeth McHenry's first marriage. Susan and John children of John Goss and Elizabeth McHenry. Germans were boarders.) The 1860 U.S. Census Population Schedule Ste. Genevieve Township, Ste. Genevieve County, Missouri, page 74, house 508, 513 dated August 28, 1850 list the following: Head of house: John Goss, male, b. Ohio, farmer, 61 years of age; Elizabeth, female b. Alabama, 41 years of age; Sophia, female, b. Missouri, 8 years of age; Josephine, female, b. Missouri, 6 years of age; Job, male, b. Missouri, 4 years of age; Chester, male, b. Missouri, 2 years of age; Elizabeth, female, b. Missouri, 4/12 years of age; William McHenry, male, b. Alabama, farmer, 21 years of age; Enos Reaney, male, b. Missouri, farmer, 21 years of age; (Author's note: Henry, Benjamin, John, Susan, George and the German males listed in the 1850 Census do not appear. Henry and Benjamin were married. John and Susan must have died. George not home.) In 1864 John Goss, Sr. sold the house located on the Southwest corner of Main and South Gabouri Street in Ste. Genevieve to Elic and Jane Bogy. This house is listed in The Story of Old Ste. Genevieve, page 142, as the Judge Bogy House. Family tradition is that John owned a couple of steamboats and a marble quarry near Ste. Genevieve from which he furnished the marble flooring for the New Orleans Custom House. The family moved to Louisiana after the sale of the property in Ste. Genevieve, Missouri. John Goss gave his permission for his daughter Ruth Sophia to marry in Louisiana in 1871. William McHenry married in Louisiana in 1869. The where abouts of John Goss after these dates are not known at this time. It is assumed he died ca. 1800. The following are the children of John J. Goss, Sr. and the widow Elizabeth McHenry. Genevieve, Missouri), d. 1858 (St. Genevieve, Missouri); Ruth Sophia Goss b. February 23, 1852 (St. Genevieve, Missouri) m. January 9, 1871 James Arnaud, s/o ?; Josephine Goss, b. 1854 (Ste. Genevieve, Missouri); John Jode "Job" Goss, Jr. b. Circa 1856 (Ste. Genevieve, Missouri) m. December 4, 1874 Emma Brewer, d/o ?; Chester Goss, b. 1858 (Ste. Genevieve, Missouri) m. July 9, 1896 Susan E. Young, d/o ?; Elizabeth Goss, b. May 1860 (Ste. Genevieve, Missouri) . Benjamin Goss was the progenitor of the large Goss family that became large farmers and land owners in northeast Acadia Parish while his half sister, Ruth and her husband, James Arnaud were the progeintors of the Arnaud's of Acadia parish. # # #
