Lyons was born in what is now Acadia parish, Louisiana, July 26, 1842. His father, Gabriel Lyons, was born near the birthplace of our subject in 1812. He was reared and spent his whole life in Louisiana. He married when young the mother of our subject, Louise Johnson, and they became the parents of six children, four sons and two daughters, of whom J. C. is the youngest. The subject of this sketch received his education in the schools of his locality. Planting has been his lifetime vocation. His plantation consists of six hundred acres of land, under fence, the principal products being corn and cotton. Mr. Lyons was married, in 1868, to Miss Clara Arceneaux. They are the parents of seven children, four sons and three daughters. Southwest Louisiana Biographical and Historical, Biographical Section, p. 267. Edited by William Henry Perrin.
