SLOANE, RAYNE, was born in Acadia parish, Louisiana, in 1840. He is the son of David Sloane, who was in the war of 1812, and died between 1840 and 1845. The subject of this sketch received his education in Acadia parish. In 1862, he enlisted in the C. S. A., under Gen. Mouton, serving four years. He was first in the infantry service, and afterward transferred to the cavalry service. Since the war he has given his attention to planting, and now owns five hundred and sixty-one acres of land, part of which is fertile and tillable, and the other, thickly wooded with timber, such as pine, oak and gum. The principal products of his place are corn and rice. He also manages a stock farm. He was married, in 1866, to Miss Margaret Laughlin, a native of Acadia parish. To them have been born nine children, four boys and five girls. Southwest Louisiana Biographical and Historical, Biographical Section, p. 271. Edited by William Henry Perrin.
