Taylor's notes: "On Sunday, September 24, 1989, Dr. Woodrow W. Smith, Superintendent of the Lake Charles District will be the Guest Speaker at the eleven o'clock worship service. Members and their guests will enjoy fellowship over a meal following the service. The religious character of the Maxie community has always been predominately Protestant. Congregations were organized and flourished in the early years. The "Long Point Methodist Church South" was the first house of worship established. This replaced the brush arbor meeting place and was developed under the leadership of Rev. R. M. Blookee. In 1892 a four (4) acre tract of land was sold to the church by Southwestern Louisiana Land Co., represented by W.W. Duson. The presiding elder at the time was Rev. John A. Miller and five of his trustees who signed the deed were: Isaac Hayes, George P. Abney, Henry A. Abney, William A. Higginbotham, and Jefferson Murphy. In 1908 the Star post office was moved to Maxie on the Frisco railroad. The name was changed to Maxie post office. Since shortly afterwards the church's name has been Maxie Methodist Church. Forty-seven ministers have served the congregation over the last century. Seven of those who survive plan to attend the celebration. Rev. Roy C. Young is currently the pastor." Submitted by: John A.
