(Abbeville, Louisiana) July 24, 1915, Page 2 July 24, 1915 Public Balls a Nuisance. - Much indignation has been aroused throughout Acadia parish on account of the fatal stabbing of Joseph Miler, a young man and the son of a prominent planter, which occured [sic] just before dawn Sunday morning as a pablic [sic] ball was ending, some miles from Crowley. His three alleged assailants, Edgar Meche, Ignace Duplechein and Forestier Duplechein, were arrested and jailed at Crowley. Sentiment against future public balls being given Saturday night has been increased, and some citizens advocate the taking of heroic measures to abolish the alleged nuisance. It is maintained that these public balls have cost many lives in the parish, estranged many families, and by such frequent repetition of affrays instillls [sic] and instigates.
