Ferris Scott and Ulysse Daniels in Knife Fight
Crowley Signal, March 20, 24 & 25, 1922

Ferris Scott, a negro, 27 years old, is dead, and Ulysse Daniels, a negro 30 
years old, better known as “Brown Skin,” is in a critical condition as a result 
of a fight with knives. The trouble, so the officers say, was caused over 
Emma Guidry, a negro woman.

About 2 o’clock Sunday morning, Scott and Daniels, who are said to have had words 
at a fair because of a dispute over the above named woman, met and a fight ensued, 
during which pocket knives were used. Scott was stabbed in the heart, on the 
shoulder and in the right hand.  He died a short while after he was cut, so the 
Signal was informed by Dr. Francez, the coroner, who held an inquest.

Daniels was stabbed below the heart. The attending physician says he has a slim 
chance to live.  He was removed to his home, and Simon Navarre was placed as 
guard over him, pending the result of his injuries. Sheriff Fontenot assigned 
Mr. Navarre to the duty.

City Marshall Lyons took possession of the knives and turned them over to 
Sheriff Fontenot. Officers Hoffpauir and Barousse investigated the case.
