Dassas Trahan of Lafayette parish, who arrested two men about 3 a.m. today and charged them with violating the state law against dueling. Edward Guilbeau, 62, was charged in the affidavit with having challenged Adam Guilbeau 25, to a duel, and an affidavit was sworn out against the latter charging him with having accepted the challenge. The encounter, it is said at the sheriff’s office, was to have taken place at 10 o’clock this morning, just across Bayou Carencro in St. Landry parish. The men who are farmers are uncle and nephew, and according to the sheriff, ill feeling had existed between them for some time, but he did not know the exact details. The sheriff did not place the men in jail, but detained them after serving the affidavits, pending efforts of themselves and friends to arrange bonds.
