All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ************************************************ POLICE JURY MINUTES Crowley Signal March 25, 1930 Meeting held January 11, 1930, for the purpose of laying and tracing out a public road in Third Police Jury Ward beginning at road known as Route 40 (Present day La Hwy 35) between Branch and Church Point and running due west to the timber at property of Demosthene Comeaux and Estate of J.E. Daigle, a distance of approximately 2 ½ miles, was presented and read and accepted and authorizing the District Attorney of Acadia Parish to proceed by law in matter of expropriating the necessary right of way for said public road by motion of Mr. Broussard, seconded by Mr. Crawford and carried. Beginning at gravel road known as Route No. 40 between Branch and Church Point running due west approximately 1/3 mile to the corner of land of Estate of Theo Daigle, Turning west and running west 2/3 mile along the property of Demosthene Comeaux and Estate of J.E. Daigle to timber near Bayou Plaquemine. We laid and traced the said public road traversing the land to wit: *Trasversing the land of O.L. Harmon 10’ in width by 2456’ in length. * the land of Miss Nettie Harmon 10 ‘ width by 718’. * the land of Mrs. Frannie Harnon 10’ width by 869’. * the land of Carl Harman 10’ width by 869’. Thence turning south and running south for a distance of approximately 2268’ length by 40’ width, traversing the following land lands: *the land of Carl Harman 10’ by 1152’. * the land of the estate of R.K. Harman 10’. *the land of Theodore Colligan 10’ by 1327’ *the land of Demosthene Comeaux 10’ by 936’ Thence turning west and running west for a distance of approximately 5101 feet in length by 40’ in width to the timber near Bayou Plaquemine and traversing the following lands: *the land of the estate of R.K. Harman 10’ by 1000’. We have assessed as the value of the land be expropriated or as much thereof as herein described at the rate of $75 per acre. We hereto attach a map showing the direction of said road thus laid out and of said land for which expropriation is requested. In faith whereof we have signed hereunto on this 8th day of March 1930, at Church Point. Cyprien Fontenot, Adolph Daigle, Jake Fontenot, Cleophas A. Savoy, P.A. Bellard, Bennet Fontenot, Abner Higginbotham. ------- Another road in 3rd Ward about 3 miles in length beginning at intersection of old Sunset road and gravel road east of Church Point and running due west to intersect Route No. 40 at property of Cosma Oliver and John Labbie. ------- And also to lay out and trace out a road beginning at gravel road near Peach Bloom School running north to Alfred Daugereaux, distand of approximately 14 arpents, the committee is as follows: Mr. Ferdinand Barousse, Eddie Jagueneaux, David Colligan, Bob Leger, Gabriel Daigle and Cosma Olivier. Moved by Mr. Chappuis, seconded by Mr. LeBleu and carried, authorizing payment of last Certificate of Indebtedness due Fluker Gravel Co., in the sum of $3,947.10, being for gravel used in First Ward S.R. district. ------ Moved by Mr. Chappuis, seconded by Mr. LeBleu and carried that Police Jury go on record not to consider any more application from indigents of parish for year 1930, on account of appropriation not being sufficient to take care of present list of indigents.
