Harmon, S.W. Steen, F.M. Bergeron, Yves Sensat, Alcide Henry and J.E. Barry, secretary, absent, R.E. Cunningham. E. Stagg was elected president pro-tem. A committee appointed to visit Prairie Mamou schools and report at this meeting. We the undersigned committee, appointed by your honorable body to visit the Mamou prairie schools in the fourth ward, and to investigate and map out a suitable location for same. We recommend that the Millerville school be moved out in the prairie on the corner of Michael Miller’s land, and that a new school be established on lands of the Riverside Canal Company at the NE corner of the SW ¼ of section 58 of township 9 south, range 2 west, and that other schools remain as now located. Resolution: That the president of the school board be and is authorized to grant to the parish of Acadia the privilege to use the right of way along the northern boundary of the NW ¼ and along the northern boundary of the NW ¼ and along the west side of section 16, in township 10 south of range 2 east,, and running west ½ mile non the north line of said section 16, a width of 20 feet. Petition from patrons of Perry Point school in regard to moving school building, received and considered, and on motion of Mr. Bergeron, duly seconded, a committee composed of J.E. Barry, superintendent, and Alcee Henry, was appointed to visit said locality, select a location for said school and report at next meeting. Petition from the neighborhood of James M. Harman, in the third ward, asking for a school, received, and on motion, the school was allowed on the conditions promised by petitioners, vis: That they furnish necessary ground and put up the building. Petition from the citizens of Octave Comeaux neighborhood, in first ward, asking for a school, received and school allowed, and on motion the sum of $75 was appropriated out of the school fund to aid in building said house, and J.E. Barry authorized to draw warrant for same. Motion of F.M. Bergeron, the sum of $100 was appropriated to build the Hundley school house out of the school house fund of the third ward, and Etienne Stagg is authorized to draw and expend said amount and report how spent. Tuesday, August 22, 1899, was fixed as the day for the examination for candidates for situation as teachers. P.S. Pugh and Etienne Stagg were appointed to conduct examinations of teachers and superintendent. The following local directors were appointed: W.S. Robertson to Point-aux’Loups school, ward four in place of Melon Doucet, resigned. Jean Gay, N.L. Landru and J.R. Myers for the Riverside school, just located in Mamou parish in ward four. Marks Bellard, O.D. Harman and James M. Harman to new school known as Harman school in ward three. Gaston Dangereaux in place of Langlors, deceased, Bergeron School in ward 3. On motion of J.E. Barry, the sum of $25 was appropriated out of the contingent fund, ward 3, to repair Bergeron school house and F.M. Bergeron was authorized to draw warrant and direct the expenditure. Claim of C.J. Welsh for livery bill for $6. Motion, Alcee Henry was appointed on the committee to locate schools in place of F.M. Bergeron, resigned from said committee. Motion of Mr. Harman that the schools in ward one and two be opened on the first Monday of October unless deferred for some good reason with the consent of the parish superintendent, and the schools in wards three, four and five be opened on the first Monday in November unless changed by consent of the superintendent.
