Mr. Meche, was born near or at Grand Coteau in January 1819. The early days of his youth were spent there, but during his boyhood, he became a resident of Coulee Crouch and was amongst the first settlers who turned the soil of old Coulee Crouch long ago. He was always in fair enough health, even up to scarcely a year ago, while his age was told by his bending form, yet the spirits of an old War Hero still clung to him as does the Stars and Stripes, to America’s Spangle Banner. The remains of Mr. Meche were laid to rest in the Catholic cemetery of this city where a large concourse of relatives and friends participated at the funeral service. It is with sad hearts we stand and watch the silent forms of these dear old brave soldiers, one by one they go, and few are the names left on the roll that could answer to their call. We hope that their soul may meet with peace, and that they may forever find a resting place in heaven, may their struggles on earth, obtain for them grace and pardon.
