All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ************************************************ Church Point News Front Page March 19, 1963 Local Grandmother, Infant Killed in Automobile Crash A local grandmother and her infant grandson were killed in a tragic highway two-car collision Wednesday afternoon about four miles north of Church Point. Mrs. Vorice Daigle, 52, the former Rosa Picard and six-weeks-old David Allen Richard, son of Mr. and Mrs. Nolton Richard, were reported instantly killed as they crashed through the windshield of a car driven by Mrs. Nolton Richard. The bodies were found in a nearby field. The second car involved in the mishap was driven by John T. Guidry. According to state police reports, the collision occurred at a section where State Route 95 makes a right angle turn to the west. Mrs. Richard’s car was going east on Rt. 95 and Guidry was traveling west on the highway. The collision happened when Mrs. Richard attempted to turn into a private driveway and turned into the path of the 1958 sedan driven by Daigle, according to state police reports. Guidry, Mrs. Richard and her daughter were reported injured. They were brought to the Church Point Hospital. Patricia sustained head injuries. Guidry and Mrs. Richard sustained only minor injuries. Investigating officers included state trooper Alphonse Bourgeois, and Acadia deputies Dorris Thibodeaux, and Letell Fontenot. Dr. W.M. Morgan, parish coroner said that no inquest would be held. Joint funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday in Our Lady of the Sacred Heart in Church Point for Mrs. Daigle, and the Richard infant. Burial followed in the Church cemetery. The infant’s survivors include his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Nolton Richard, Church Point; one sister, Patricia, Church Point; and the maternal grandfather, Vorice Richard, Church Point. Mrs. Daigle is survived by her husband; one daughter, Mrs. Nolton Richard; three brothers, Francois Picard and Willie Picard, Church Point; and Edwin Picard, Eunice; two sisters, Mrs. Alice Ledoux, Lawtell, and Mrs. Pierre Fruge, Eunice; and one grandchild.
