March 4 – Final rites for Mrs. John Colbert Demary, 37, of Hathaway, who died in the Jennings hospital Wednesday morning of severe burns received in an accident, were conducted at the Hathaway Catholic Church at 9 o’clock Thursday morning. The Rev. L.M. Fournet officiated. Burial was in the Doucet cemetery with the Miguez funeral home in charge. Mrs. Demary was severely burned Tuesday morning when a gasoline iron which she was using exploded at her home near Hathaway. Her 13 year old daughter, Leola, along with her at the time, summoned help from men working outside. Blankets were used to smother the flames. However, when the woman was received at the hospital, she was suffering from third degree burns from her hips to the top of her head. Survivors are her husband and four children, Clifford, Lloyd, Leola, and Eles and by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Ewing of Hayes. Pallbearers were Clifford and Floyd Demary, Wallace and Frank Ewing, Leo Nugent and Edward Fontenot.
