Funeral services were held at the Ardoin Funeral home chapel in Eunice. Burial was in the Woodlawn cemetery in Crowley. Fontenot’s widow is the former Mary Alice Barras, former editor of the Church Point News and Rayne Acadian-Tribune, authoress, and present area editor of the Opelousas Daily World. Other survivors are two daughters, Miss Julie Fontenot of Opelousas and Mrs. Burton Ziegler of Newellton; a brother, Roland Fontenot of Crowley; two sisters, Mrs. Doris Staken of Crowley, and Mrs. Jeanette Sarver of New Orleans, and six grandchildren. Mr. Fontenot was born Jan. 21, 1905, in Crowley and was educated there. He managed a rice mill in Crowley until 1946 when the family moved to Eunice. He held a similar position in Eunice and was widely known in the Louisiana rice industry.
