Fr. Gary Schexnayder, Pastor of St. Michael’s, celebrated the Mass and the committal services at Woodlawn Cemetery. Visitation was held Saturday from 12 p.m. until service time at Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home. The Rosary was prayed at 1 p.m. Saturday. Mrs. Ziegler, formerly of Newellton, Louisiana, was born in Crowley to the late Sidney and Mary Alice Barras Fontenot. She married her husband of 59 years, John Burton Ziegler, in Crowley at St. Michael’s. She spent a large part of her life in banking, antiques, and family farming activities. She is the author, with her mother Mary Alice Fontenot, of The Tensas Story. She was also a researcher for the genealogy archive of the State of Louisiana. Mrs. Ziegler was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in St. Joseph, the Bruin-Vidal chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and the St. Joseph Arts Council. She was also a supporter of Tensas Academy from its inception. She was a cancer survivor. Since her husband’s death in 2005, Mrs. Ziegler had resided in Lafayette. Mrs. Ziegler was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her brother Robert Dale Fontenot, and her step-father Vincent L. Riehl. She is survived by her children, Fritz B. Ziegler and wife Margaret of Covington; Robert H. Ziegler of Lafayette; Eric S. Ziegler and wife Debra of Corte Madera, California; Christina Ziegler Bauerle and husband Chuck, of St Joseph, Louisiana; and Dale A. Ziegler and wife Diana of Lafayette; her sister Julie Fontenot Landry of Laguna Woods, California; her grandchildren Adam, Ben, John, and Molly Ziegler; Emily and Avery Ziegler; Matthew and Megan Bauerle; and Krystal and Karly Ziegler; three nieces and a nephew; and four step-siblings. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial gifts be given to the American Cancer Society or schools. Arrangements were entrusted to Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home, Inc. of Crowley Additional Comments: Edith Ziegler was a major contributor to the Louisiana Archives Project.
